The bell rings for round one and we are underway! The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mazzariello closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Mazzariello staying calm. Lazurus is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Mazzariello connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Lazurus some visible discomfort.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Mazzariello controls the position. It looks like Mazzariello might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it. Lazurus wants to get back to his feet but Mazzariello drags him back down.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mazzariello controlling from side mount.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Mazzariello throws an elbow but Lazurus slips to the side and avoids it well. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Mazzariello is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position. Let's hope that Mazzariello has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Mazzariello throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Lazurus is trying to control Mazzariello's posture but Mazzariello avoids it.
And that's the end of the fight! Delbert Mazzariello comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Mazzariello has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1 round of action, we go to the scorecards for a decision. Judge Anthony Taglia scores the fight 9:10 Judge Jonathan Paton scores the fight 9:10 Judge John Kavanagh scores the fight 9:10
In favor of your winner, by unanimous decision... Delbert Mazzariello!
