These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 20 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, James Pearson!
The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Sosuke Kotani and Ren Mimura.

Lach shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Lach jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Pearson walks into a straight right hand from Lach.

It looks like James Pearson has been cut.
Pearson scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.

It looks like Gniewomir Lach has been cut.
Pearson tries a head kick but it misses.
Lach swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Pearson misses with a low kick.
Pearson is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Lach.
Lach stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Pearson.
Lach avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
Lach half committed to a counter leg kick.
Pearson tries a head kick but it misses.
Lach appeared to be looking to counter that last move with a leg kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

and Lach counters with a nice uppercut.
Pearson throws a leg kick
and Lach counters with a left to the body.
Pearson throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Pearson throws a leg kick that is checked
and Lach counters with an inside leg kick.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Pearson on the wrong end of a kick to the body.
Lach displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.

Lach lands a big right hand that sends Pearson crashing to the mat! Lach stays standing though and waves Pearson back to his feet!

That has opened up James Pearson's cut even more.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Lach lands hard precision jab right on the jaw that stiffens Pearson up and sends him tumbling to the mat! The ref grabs Lach from behind before he can pounce. Some folks in the crowd didn't like that stoppage, but I saw Pearson's eyes roll way back in his head, he was done.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:22 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Gniewomir Lach!
A relieved looking Gniewomir Lach thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
