Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Aristides Abel (ranked 229 p4p, 158 weight class) and Cletus McDonald (ranked 31 p4p, 23 weight class). Abel comes to the cage accompanied by Express Yourself. McDonald comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Merle Haggard - Okie From Muskogee kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

McDonald has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Abel.

McDonald looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Abel with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. McDonald connects with a nice short shot to Abel's temple.
McDonald has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

We've been told by Abel's head coaches at Total Impact MMA/KT that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Abel has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.

McDonald fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Abel manages to avoid it.
A quick step to the side and Abel tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.

and Abel counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Nice straight punches there by Abel. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Abel.
Abel tries to land a front kick but McDonald steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
McDonald looks to throw the jab but Abel is out of range.
Abel throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Excellent takedown into side control there by McDonald .
Abel sneaks out the side door and pushes McDonald away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.

Abel tries to land a front kick but McDonald steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
McDonald scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Abel is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Abel connects with a good straight punch right through the guard and follows up with a right hook and a left hook! That last one sent McDonald tumbling to the canvas! Abel pours on the pressure with more strikes and the referee has no hesitation diving in to stop the fight! McDonald was done - good stoppage!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:18 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Aristides Abel!
Aristides Abel bigged himself up after the win. The crowd seemed to love it.
Cletus McDonald spoke after the fight, saying 'A country boy can survive'.
