Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Preston Peace! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Robert Waldlow! The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, John Mangel and Skip Squint.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Waldlow lands with a kick to the temple. Peace shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?" Peace takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Waldlow thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Peace if he has to take too many more of those.
Peace tries to land a body kick and Peace takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. A head kick from Waldlow lands but Peace takes it in his stride.
Peace is rocked!
It looks like Preston Peace has been cut. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Peace looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Oh Peace is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Waldlow lands a high kick to the side of Peace's head that stuns him and send him tumbling down to the canvas! Waldlow dives into guard, looking to finish. Waldlow working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Peace might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Waldlow missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Peace seems to have got his legs back now. Waldlow loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Peace is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control. Waldlow is looking to work some ground and pound but Peace has wrist control. Peace seems keen to control Waldlow's posture. Waldlow postures up in Peace's guard and throws a big left but Peace blocks it. Peace wants to sweep but no luck.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Nice straight punches there by Waldlow. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Waldlow.
That's one minute gone in the round. Waldlow throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Peace. Waldlow is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Peace takes a kick to the side of the head. Waldlow throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Waldlow lands a glancing blow to the side of Peace's head. Waldlow goes for a high kick. It partially lands. Waldlow is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range. Waldlow lands a big head kick that sends Peace to the canvas! Waldlow follows up with strikes from the mount that forces the ref to step in and stop the fight!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:23 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Robert Waldlow!
