PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Aguta Grizzly (ranked 1471 p4p, 3606 weight class) and Eliott Leighton (ranked 196 p4p, 422 weight class). Leighton has chosen Bad to the Bone - George Thorogood as his entrance music. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Aguta Grizzly!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 13 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Eliott Leighton!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Steve Smith and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Grizzly misses with a low kick.
And Leighton tries to counter it with a takedown but Grizzly pushes his down on his head and steps out.

and Leighton decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Grizzly's guard.
Leighton stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Grizzly swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Grizzly wants to stand and escape but Leighton is having none of it.
Leighton trying to control the position from guard on top but Grizzly is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Grizzly is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Leighton is controlling him.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Leighton has gone for a leg lock! Grizzly slips out almost immediately though and dives into Leighton's guard.

Grizzly throws an elbow that misses. Leighton uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Grizzly's guard. Nice move by Leighton!

Grizzly is looking to stand up but Leighton isn't so interested in that idea.

Leighton postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Grizzly is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Leighton, into his guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Leighton is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Grizzly accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Grizzly stands up over Leighton, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Grizzly works over Leighton with some ground and pound from guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Grizzly wants to control from the top but Leighton keeps moving.
Grizzly has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Grizzly pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Leighton is keeping the position for now.

Leighton has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Grizzly can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Leighton is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Grizzly defends well.
Leighton utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Grizzly has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Leighton is proving hard to escape from.
Grizzly throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Leighton works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Grizzly loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Grizzly stands up over his opponent, looking to dive in with a big punch. Here he comes, superman style! Oh, the punch misses and Leighton has got him in a triangle choke for good measure! Oh no! Grizzly manages to get his head free but now Leighton has transitioned to an armbar! Grizzly grimaces and is forced to tap! Beautiful Jiu Jitsu from Leighton! I'd be surprised if that didn't end up as submission of the night!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:50 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Eliott Leighton!
An out of breath Eliott Leighton thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
