PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bill Bright (ranked 1349 p4p, 1955 weight class) and Lotay Wangchuck (ranked 158 p4p, 218 weight class). Bright comes into the arena with So What blaring out of the sound system. Lotay Wangchuck is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

With a record of 12 - 10 - 0, fighting out of London, Lotay Wangchuck!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Yuuki Gou and Yukihiro Yamamoto.

Wangchuck shoots in for a takedown but Bright shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Bright shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Wangchuck tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Wangchuck is trying to control the position but Bright postures up.

Bright got a little sloppy there for a moment and Wangchuck has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Bright has managed to get both his arms back between Wangchuck's legs - danger averted.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Bright drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Wangchuck dives on top into guard.

Wangchuck must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Wangchuck drops back looking for a leg! Bright is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Bright manages to kick Wangchuck off! Wangchuck jumps back into Bright's guard.

Wangchuck tries to free his leg and advance position but Bright is retaining full guard.

Bright keeping moving, preventing Wangchuck from controlling successfully.

Bright has his foot on Wangchuck's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Wangchuck works his way back into a safe position though.

Bright is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Wangchuck is aware though and is defending well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Wangchuck trying to control but Bright is working from the bottom.

Bright isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Wangchuck stacks Bright on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Wangchuck!
Bright tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Wangchuck wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
My spies in Lads Lash Banter Gym inform me that Wangchuck has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

Bright is looking to reverse the position.
Wangchuck staying calm.

Wangchuck tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Wangchuck has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Wangchuck is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Bright knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Bright is trying to get back to half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Bright is not content to let Wangchuck control the position.
Bright can't do much from the bottom here.
Bright is trying to escape the position but Wangchuck is controlling the position.
Wangchuck tries to advance to mount but can't.

Wangchuck is working to tighten his grip on Bright's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Bright has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Wangchuck is really squeezing tight and eventually Bright passes out! Wangchuck breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:54 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Lotay Wangchuck!
A very excited looking Lotay Wangchuck rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
Bill Bright spoke after the fight, saying 'I hate millwall'.
