PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Dominick Bruise (ranked 2891 p4p, 2599 weight class) and Tim Slater (ranked 163 p4p, 150 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dominick Bruise!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 10 - 0, fighting out of New York, Tim Slater!
The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, John Kavanagh and Bruno Lombardi.

Tim Slater seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Bruise steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Slater.
Bruise is looking to counter the offense by Slater and move into the clinch.

A punch lands to the side of Bruise 's head but he takes it in his stride.

Bruise has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Slater finds it's way round the side to connect with Bruise's head.

Slater tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Bruise swivels and escapes.
Bruise changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.

Slater lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Slater moves away from the strike by Bruise.
Bruise throws a hook but Slater blocks it.
Bruise misses with an uppercut.
Bruise missing with a left hand there. Slater was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Slater throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Bruise stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

And an attempted straight right on the counter from Slater! But no joy.
Bruise takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Slater throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Slater moves away from the strike by Bruise.

Bruise closes the distance and clinches.
Slater fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Bruise throws an elbow but it misses.
Slater tries for a takedown but Bruise manages to get underhooks.
Dominick Bruise has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tim Slater.

Slater tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Bruise is pushing Slater up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.

Slater jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Bruise walks away with a smile on his face. Slater gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Slater throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Bruise shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Slater but Slater pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Slater clobbers Bruise with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Bruise missing with a left hand there. Slater was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Slater throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
A telegraphed right hand from Slater misses the target.
Slater gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Slater keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Bruise.

Slater bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Bruise's head backwards.
Bruise is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.
Bruise fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Bruise tries to clinch but Slater is having none of it.
Bruise throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Slater.
Bruise walks into a stiff left hand from Slater.

Bruise displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Slater throws out the jab.

Slater tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Bruise tries to lock up and control but Slater gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bruise has given up his back.

Slater is looking for the choke from the back position but Bruise is controlling his hands well.
Our spies down at at Mello MMA inform us that Slater has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off?

Slater has the rear naked choke here! This is very bad for Bruise! Can he survive? No! He's out! Slater gets to his feet and celebrates with his cornermen. He looks absolutely delighted. In the post fight interviews he takes time to thank his parents and everyone who has believed in him from the start. How sweet.
