Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Reginald Cavendish! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Michael James! The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Kenichi Hosakawa and Ren Mimura.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cavendish with a nice cross.
It looks like Michael James has been cut. James avoids the head kick by Cavendish.
Cavendish throws a sloppy head kick and James moves out of range easily. A clash of legs there as James blocks the low kick. Cavendish throws a series of punches but James moves out of range. James fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Cavendish sprawls well initially but James persists and gets the takedown into half guard. James is trying to work for a kimura but Cavendish is defending well.
James is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. James is pressing down on Cavendish's thigh, looking to free his foot. Cavendish is holding on for now. Cavendish tries to kick James off but James keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. James is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Cavendish doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time James. James looks gassed! James looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Cavendish is fending him off so far but James persists. Nope, Cavendish circles away and we're back to standing. Cavendish motions for James to come forward. Cavendish throws a leg kick but it misses it's target. James tries to close the distance and clinch up but Cavendish swats him away and circles back towards the center. Cavendish with a jab. Cavendish lands a jab to the nose. Cavendish scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent. Cavendish lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Cavendish. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Cavendish misses with a body shot.
Cavendish looks to land a combination but James avoids it well. Reginald Cavendish is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. James looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. James wants to work for an arm triangle but Cavendish is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. James changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Cavendish looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Possibly, maybe, no James has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! James tries to move into full mount but can't pass Cavendish's legs.
