PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Sokhan Gaki (ranked 5749 p4p, 24325 weight class) and Chris Columbus (ranked 473 p4p, 623 weight class). Sokhan Gaki has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Sokhan Gaki!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Chris Columbus!
The judges for this bout are Saam Ante, Paul Aken and Wagner Zegers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Columbus fails with the takedown.
Columbus shoots in but no luck this time.
Columbus sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.

Columbus moves into the clinch.
Gaki tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Columbus's elbow.

Columbus has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Gaki regains guard immediately.

Gaki has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Columbus off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Columbus shoots in but no luck this time.
Gaki thinks about countering with a body kick.
Sokhan Gaki has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Chris Columbus.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Gaki throws a nice outside leg kick.

Columbus shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Gaki manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Gaki pulls Columbus in close to prevent any damage.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Gaki bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Columbus's guard.

Columbus is trying to keep Gaki in close.
Gaki is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Columbus has a closed guard, preventing Gaki from standing up.
Columbus is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Gaki is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Gaki trying to control the position from guard on top but Columbus is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Columbus escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Gaki gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Gaki trying to control but Columbus is working from the bottom.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
No luck for Columbus with that takedown attempt.
Gaki seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
Gaki throws a sloppy head kick and Columbus moves out of range easily.

Columbus scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Columbus trying to control the action but Gaki is working from the bottom.
Gaki is trying to get back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Columbus lands a nice forearm strike.
Gaki is trying to control Columbus's posture but Columbus avoids it.
Gaki sneaks back into half guard.
Columbus tries to stand but can't do so whilst Gaki controls his leg.

Columbus is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Gaki sees it coming and defends easily.
Gaki is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Gaki keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Columbus lands a nice short elbow.
And that�s the end of the round � the fighters go back to their corners.

Sokhan Gaki dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Columbus decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Columbus wants to take a breather but Gaki is having none of it.
Gaki gets full guard.
Gaki trying to control the position.
Gaki looking for a sweep. Not yet Gaki, not yet.
Columbus trying to control but Gaki is working from the bottom.
Sokhan Gaki overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gaki trying to keep a closed guard but Columbus is proving a slippery customer.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Gaki wants to get back to his feet but Columbus is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Columbus fails to land the takedown.
Gaki tried to counter with a leg kick but Columbus avoided it.
Gaki slips under a jab from Columbus.
It appears Gaki was looking to counter with a kick there.
Columbus takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Columbus is breathing heavily.

Gaki lands a big head kick that sends Columbus tumbling to the mat! Gaki takes a step backwards and waves Columbus back to his feet - he wants the finish!

It looks like Chris Columbus has been cut.
Columbus walks straight into a right hand from Gaki - that's dropped him! Gaki jumps into mount and starts pounding away - can he finish?! More strikes go undefended and the referee has to dive in to save Columbus from any more punishment! Columbus complains about the stoppage but falls over as he tries to stand back up, so it was clearly a good stoppage.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:39 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Sokhan Gaki!
