PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Joshua Brown (ranked 3362 p4p, 2195 weight class) and Kollaa River (ranked 379 p4p, 257 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Brown might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Hail Mary Tupac. River has chosen For Heavy Metal we will die! as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Joshua Brown!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Kollaa River!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Shigeki Sano.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

River goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
River swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Brown feinted with a counter takedown.
Brown misses with a takedown attempt - River sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
River misses with a wild body shot.
River defending well as Brown loads up on a big left hand.
The fighters circle momentarily. River darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.

It looks like Joshua Brown has been cut.
Kollaa River seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
River throws a body kick that digs right into the meat.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Brown is keen to just control but River is a slippery customer.

Brown wants to work for an arm triangle but River is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
River slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
River is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now River is on top in guard.

Brown is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so River is just riding it out for now. Brown eventually gives up the hold.

River working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Brown doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Brown manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

River is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Brown is aware though and is defending well.

River has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it.

Brown is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. River doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Brown.
River is trying to maintain the position but Brown is very close to passing his half guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
River won't allow Brown to pass to mount.

River can't escape the position.

Brown has hold of River's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and River manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Kollaa River will probably get the nod.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Brown on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.

Brown shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Brown was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Brown goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, River rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Brown's guard! Nice work there by River!
River advances position into side control!
River tries to advance to mount but Brown denies him.
Brown is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Brown is trying to control but River manages to pass to mount!

River is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Brown has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Brown!
River is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Brown trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but River manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!

Brown is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Joshua Brown overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
River wants to pass the guard but Brown is keeping the position.

Brown has his foot on River's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. River works his way back into a safe position though.

River wants to control from the top but Brown keeps moving.

River got a little sloppy there for a moment and Brown has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, River has managed to get both his arms back between Brown's legs - danger averted.
River slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Brown looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Brown escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. River gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
River passes into half guard.
Brown wants to improve his position but River is controlling well.
Brown works his way to full guard. Good work.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Brown had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. River defends it easily.
River tries to free his leg and advance position but Brown is retaining full guard.
River pushing down on Brown's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
River wants to free his trapped foot but Brown is holding on for dear life with his legs.

River is working for a kimura but Brown is defending it quite comfortably.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

A close second round but Kollaa River will probably get the nod - 10:9.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Brown shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says River as he avoids it easily.
River plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Joshua Brown. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Brown takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
River lands a big head kick that sends Brown to the canvas! River follows up with strikes from the mount that forces the ref to step in and stop the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:48 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Kollaa River!
Kollaa River was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
In defeat, Joshua Brown stepped up to the mic, saying 'I will learn from this!!'.
