Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Roar Horse (ranked 31 p4p, 167 weight class) and Carlos Ruas (ranked 3 p4p, 9 weight class). Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 31 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Roar Horse!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 25 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Carlos Ruas!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Percy O'Donnell and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

A looping hook to the body misses from Horse. Ruas does a little dance to reset his feet.
Horse misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Ruas.
Horse looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Ruas tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Horse manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Horse tries to counter by clinching up but Ruas breaks away and moves out of range.
Ruas swings widly with a right hand
and Horse counters with a lovely straight right hand!

It looks like Carlos Ruas has been cut.
Horse is looking to clinch.
Horse gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Ruas throws a hook to the side of Horse's head but Horse sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Horse misses with a jab, cross combination.
Horse pivots, looking for a leg kick but Ruas is out of range and Horse settles back down.

Horse clinches with his opponent.

Ruas jumps guard.
Ruas tries to land a sweep but no joy.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Ruas is on top in guard.

Ruas forces his way into half guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Ruas is trying to control the action in half guard but Horse is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Horse pushes Ruas off looking to stand but Ruas dives back in and keeps control.
Ruas is trying to control. Horse wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Ruas wants to pass to mount but Horse is defending the position.

Ruas moves nicely into side control.
Horse wants to get back to his feet but Ruas drags him back down.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Ruas moves into full mount!
Ruas wants to take his opponent's back but Horse doesn't allow it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Horse's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
Ruas is trying to take his opponent's back.
Ruas is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Ruas swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Horse is now in Ruas's guard. A big mistake from Ruas there, giving up the dominant position!
Horse would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Horse gets to his feet. Ruas looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Horse moves out of range as Ruas strikes.
Horse misses with a looping right.
Horse tries to clinch there but Ruas circles away.
Ruas fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Ruas stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Horse lands a slapping body shot.

Horse goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Roar Horse is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Ruas moves out of range as Horse throws a body kick.
Ruas with the counter takedown but Horse avoids it easily.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Horse wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.
Ruas throws a series of punches but Horse avoids them all with ease.

Horse darts in and clinches Ruas up against the cage.
Ruas avoids the elbow strike from Horse, against the cage.

Ruas prevents a body shot from Horse.

Ruas manages to pull guard.
Horse wants to get up but he can't break Ruas's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Ruas looking for a sweep. Not yet Ruas, not yet.
Horse wants to stand but Ruas has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Ruas lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Horse bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

and Ruas takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Ruas just misses with a punch to the body.
Horse misses with a looping left.
Ruas drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Horse defends it well.

Horse ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Ruas moves away.

Ruas connects with a good right hand that stumbles Horse. Horse circles away out of range and recomposes himself.

Ruas shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Ruas showed some decent athleticism there.

Horse kicks Ruas off and gets back to his feet.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Ruas wants to pass the guard but Horse is keeping the position.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Horse takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Ruas throws a right and a left that Horse avoids nicely.
Ruas uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Horse.
No joy there for Ruas, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Horse misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Ruas might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
Ruas thuds his right hand into Horse's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
A big left from Ruas misses.
Horse walks into a stiff left hand from Ruas.
Horse sizes up Ruas with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.

That has opened up Carlos Ruas's cut even more.
Horse is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Ruas tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Ruas scores with the left hand. Horse knows he should have avoided that one.

A slow jab from Horse misses its intended target.
Ruas uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Horse.
Horse slips under a jab from Ruas.
Horse has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Ruas finds it's way round the side to connect with Horse's head.
Ruas throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Horse sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Ruas moves out of range of the body kick from Horse.
A telegraphed right hand from Horse misses the target.
Horse moves into range and lands a nice body kick.
Ruas throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

Ruas takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Ruas manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Horse on his heels. He'll look to pass Horse's guard now, I'm sure.

Horse pushes Ruas off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Nice straight punches there by Horse. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Horse.
Horse lands with an uppercut that bounces Ruas off the cage and back into range.

The cut above Carlos Ruas's eye is starting to cause him problems now.

Ruas throws a shot from downtown. Horse moves away and avoids it.
Horse tries to land a front kick but Ruas steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Carlos Ruas seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Horse misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Ruas.

Ruas closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Ruas is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Horse has escaped the position, nice work there.
Ruas tries to move to mount but Horse blocks the move with his legs.
Roar Horse has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Ruas thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Horse pushes Ruas away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Ruas gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Ruas wants to control but Horse is keeping him busy.
Horse is pushing Ruas's head away, looking to escape. Ruas manages to hold on to the position though.
Ruas passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Horse!

Carlos Ruas is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
My spies in 3Band MMA inform me that Ruas has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!
