Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 26 - 21 - 2, fighting out of Los Angeles, Evgenii Mamchenko! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 16 - 21 - 0, fighting out of New York, Whorely Alvarez! The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, Steven Brown and Phil Schofield.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mamchenko throws an off balance right hand
and Alvarez counters with a three punch combo that has Mamchenko backing up. Mamchenko nods at Alvarez to acknowledge the strikes. Mamchenko drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles. Alvarez swings widly with a right hand
enabling Mamchenko to counter with a crisp jab. Alvarez slips a straight right by Mamchenko. Mamchenko throws an off balance right hand
and Alvarez counters with a slapping leg kick. Mamchenko shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Mamchenko is controlling the pace.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Alvarez regains full guard. Nicely done. Alvarez is controlling Mamchenko's posture.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mamchenko tries to free his leg and advance position but Alvarez is retaining full guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Mamchenko wants to control from the top but Alvarez keeps moving. Mamchenko advances position into side control! Mamchenko tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it. Mamchenko tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Mamchenko has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Mamchenko is looking to take a break and control but Alvarez is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Mamchenko tries for a kimura but Alvarez is defending well. Alvarez tries to improve position but can't. Mamchenko in side control, just content to control the action for now. Alvarez tries to get back to half guard but can't. Mamchenko trying to control the position but Alvarez is working away.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mamchenko working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Alvarez is trying to improve his position. Mamchenko controlling the position. Mamchenko wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Alvarez, who protects the arm well. Mamchenko is trying to get an arm triangle but Alvarez is defending well. Alvarez is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Mamchenko is one step ahead and moves to full mount! Alvarez told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Mamchenko avoids the attempt from Alvarez to control. Alvarez is wriggling around trying to escape.
Mamchenko looking to control but Alvarez is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Alvarez tries to get back to half guard but can't. Mamchenko lands a heavy elbow. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Mamchenko working away from the top, dropping strikes. Alvarez gets back to half guard. Alvarez is trying to get back to full guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Evgenii Mamchenko dominated that round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Alvarez uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Mamchenko. Mamchenko lands a glancing blow to the side of Alvarez's head. Alvarez throws a predictable looking body shot
and Mamchenko scores with a counter punch that sends Alvarez to the canvas! Mamchenko smells blood - he's punishing Alvarez with more strikes and the ref has stopped it! Alvarez has no idea where he is - he's tackled the ref... oh dear, poor guy, the crowd is in hysterics!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:14 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Evgenii Mamchenko! After the big win, Evgenii Mamchenko made sure to do all the important stuff like thanking his sponsors Heavy Metal Drugs and telling the interviewer how much he loves him.
