PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Justin Purcell (ranked 2825 p4p, 2900 weight class) and Edgar Bravo (ranked 285 p4p, 294 weight class). Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Justin Purcell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Edgar Bravo!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, Paul Tew and Steven Brown.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Bravo thuds a left hand into Purcell's body.
Bravo misses with a double jab

so Purcell counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Purcell connects with a couple of short punches.
Purcell postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Bravo is on top in guard.

Purcell has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Bravo controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Bravo avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Bravo gets to his feet - Purcell follows without any prompting.
Bravo avoids a lazy jab quite easily.

Bravo gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Bravo is struggling to control the position.

Bravo escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Purcell lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Purcell throws a hook but Bravo blocks it.
Purcell misses with a hook.
Purcell really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Bravo has closed the distance and engaged Purcell in a clinch.
Bravo lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage.

Purcell tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Bravo smiles and moves away.
Bravo moves in looking to clinch but Purcell pushes him off.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Purcell.
Bravo tries to counter by closing the distance.
Purcell moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.

Bravo moves into the clinch.
Purcell misses with a shot to the kidneys.

Bravo escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Purcell throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Bravo sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Bravo lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Purcell misses with a straight right.

Bravo moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Purcell misses with a hook. Bravo ducked under it nicely.

Bravo has Purcell up against the cage in a clinch.
Purcell wants to break the clinch but can't.
Purcell tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Bravo will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Purcell up against the cage.
Purcell misses with a hook from the clinch.

Bravo manages to break the clinch.
Bravo digs a good hook to Purcell's body.
Purcell throws a hook to the side of Bravo's head but Bravo sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Bravo tries to clinch but Purcell is having none of it.
Purcell misses with a wild combination.
Bravo slips a straight right by Purcell.
Bravo throws a series of punches but Purcell moves out of range.

Bravo moves into the clinch.

Bravo's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Bravo closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Purcell jumps into guard, dragging Bravo to the mat.

Purcell looking for a guillotine here but Bravo defends easily.
Bravo throwing strikes from guard but Purcell blocks nicely.

Bravo avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Bravo working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Bravo must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Purcell is on top in guard.

Bravo wants to stand up but Purcell is controlling him.

Bravo escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Purcell gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Purcell throws a big elbow that misses.
Bravo not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Bravo throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Purcell is working Bravo over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Purcell stops Bravo from standing up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Bravo trying to control the position here.
Bravo is looking to stand up but Purcell isn't so interested in that idea.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Edgar Bravo dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!

Bravo throws a right and a left that Purcell avoids nicely.
Purcell tries a low kick but Bravo avoids it.
Bravo tries to close the distance and clinch up but Purcell swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Bravo fails in his attempt to clinch.
Nice defenses there by Bravo.
Bravo connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
A head kick misses from Purcell.
Bravo doesn't manage to clinch there - Purcell circles away.
Purcell swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.
Purcell looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Bravo staying out of range there.
Bravo throws out a counter right but Purcell avoids it with no problem.
Purcell lands a nice looking body shot.
Edgar Bravo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Bravo tries to clinch but Purcell is having none of it.
Bravo steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Purcell. That one must have hurt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Purcell throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Bravo wants to clinch.
Bravo tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Bravo fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Bravo feints a jab promting Purcell to slip. Bravo then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Purcell slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Bravo fails with an attempt to clinch.

Bravo darts in and clinches Purcell up against the cage.
Purcell is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Bravo gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Bravo displaying some good clinch control by pressing Purcell up against the cage.
Bravo stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.

Purcell decides to pull guard.

Purcell looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Bravo is defending well. Purcell quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Bravo has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Purcell celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Justin Purcell!
