Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Earl Bird (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jacques Cousteau (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Earl Bird! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jacques Cousteau! The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Ian Loll and William Peck.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cousteau avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Earl Bird seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Bird wants to clinch up but Cousteau keeps it at a distance. The fight stays on the outside here - Bird looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Cousteau avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Bird tries to clinch up but Cousteau circles away and keeps his distance. Cousteau fails with the takedown. Bird rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Cousteau moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Bird tries to clinch there but Cousteau circles away.
Cousteau keeps the fight on the outside. Bird tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Cousteau paws at him with a jab and circles away. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Cousteau shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Bird's guard. Bird trying to control the position.
Bird wants to get back to his feet but Cousteau is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cousteau connects with a couple of short punches. Cousteau trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Cousteau drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Cousteau jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Cousteau prevents Bird from getting back to his feet. Cousteau thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Bird is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Cousteau clinches up with Bird and pushes him back against the cage. Knees to the body from Bird.

Bird tries to clinch but Cousteau moves away and Cousteau counters with a nice double leg into side control. Bird won't be happy with that. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Bird manages to get back to half guard. Bird looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Bird wants to get back to his feet. Cousteau is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Bird is just riding it out for now. Cousteau eventually gives up the hold. Cousteau throwing shots but Bird is blocking nicely.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Cousteau is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Bird darts in trying to clinch and Cousteau counters with a takedown into side control. Cousteau trying to control the position but Bird is working away. Cousteau lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Cousteau throwing strikes but missing, from side control. Cousteau tries for a kimura but Bird is defending well. Bird regains half guard. Cousteau is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Cousteau throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Bird's waist but Bird gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Cousteau off to one side. Earl Bird has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jacques Cousteau. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Cousteau shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Bird darts in trying to clinch and Cousteau counters with a takedown into side control. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cousteau shoots in for a double leg but Bird sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Bird tries to clinch but Cousteau moves away and Cousteau counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Cousteau is trying to control the action in half guard but Bird is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Bird looks like he's trying to stand up.
Bird kicks Cousteau off and gets back to his feet. Bird tries to clinch and Cousteau counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Cousteau is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Cousteau bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Cousteau working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Bird tries to get back to half guard but can't. Cousteau scores with punches from side control. Cousteau is trying to get an arm triangle but Bird is defending well. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Cousteau is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Bird knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Jacques Cousteau showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Come on Bird, up you get! Bird throws a right and a left that both miss. Cousteau drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Cousteau is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Bird is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Cousteau is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Bird has escaped the position, nice work there. Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Cousteau is pressing down on Bird's thigh, looking to free his foot. Bird is holding on for now. Cousteau lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt. Cousteau is working for a kimura but Bird is defending it quite comfortably.

Cousteau slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Jacques Cousteau is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Cousteau has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Bird tries to improve position but can't. Cousteau is trying to get an arm triangle but Bird is defending well. Cousteau wants to control but Bird is keeping him busy. Cousteau has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Bird is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Cousteau yanks on the arm and Bird is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Cousteau.
