Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Marcos De Souza! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Riley Oconner! The judges for this bout are Peter Branson, Dirk Anderson and Winston Alpacca.

De Souza closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Oconner misses with the head strike.

Still in the clinch, Oconner scores with a nice short uppercut. Oconner stalling in the clinch but De Souza improves position. De Souza tries to pull guard but Oconner holds him up against the cage and eventually De Souza drops back down to his feet.

De Souza definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. De Souza tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

De Souza tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Oconner trying to control the position from guard on top but De Souza is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Oconner must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. De Souza is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Oconner seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. De Souza looking for a sweep. Not yet De Souza, not yet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Oconner is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. De Souza is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here. De Souza wants to lay and pray for a moment but Oconner keeps working. De Souza wants to free his trapped foot but Oconner is holding on for dear life with his legs. De Souza looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. De Souza looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
That's three minutes gone in the round. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. De Souza wants to lay and pray for a moment but Oconner keeps working. Oconner tries to roll over but De Souza keeps him under control. De Souza trying to control the action but Oconner is working from the bottom. De Souza maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Oconner could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but De Souza has cracked it and Oconner is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by De Souza!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Marcos De Souza! Marcos De Souza retains his middleweight title! Marcos De Souza decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
