PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Cthulhu Mythos (ranked 5290 p4p, 5305 weight class) and Troy Maybark (ranked 512 p4p, 515 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Troy Maybark!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Wesley Smith and Robert Twigg.

Maybark tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Mythos manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Mythos enables Maybark to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Mythos manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Maybark controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Mythos lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Maybark really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Mythos. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Mythos drops back, looking for a kneebar! Maybark looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Maybark looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Maybark!

Mythos shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Maybark defends it nicely.

Maybark manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Mythos on his heels. He'll look to pass Mythos's guard now, I'm sure.

Maybark slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Troy Maybark showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Mythos darts in looking for a takedown but Maybark gets double underhooks and turns Mythos into the cage.

Maybark closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Maybark lands in his opponent's guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Mythos drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Mythos jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Maybark is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Mythos defends well.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Maybark can do anything to dispel that myth.
Mythos is fighting to break Maybark's control of his arms but Maybark is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Maybark throws the left hand but Mythos avoids the punch easily.

As Maybark looks to move away, Mythos throws a big counter combo but Maybark just gets out of the way.

Maybark shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Mythos manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Mythos has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Maybark can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
