Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mike Donovan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Edson Arantes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters really staring eachother down here, as Edson Arantes enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mike Donovan! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Edson Arantes! The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Emerson Jorge and Paulo Santos.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Donovan looks to land a body kick but Arantes moved away. Donovan looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this! Donovan shoots in and drives through. Arantes sprawls well. A head kick misses from Arantes. Donovan shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Arantes as he avoids it easily. Arantes fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Arantes gets a clinch. Arantes is trying to break free. Arantes can't break the clinch.
Arantes decides to pull guard. Arantes has his hands on Donovan's head, controlling the position. Donovan working some strikes from top position. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Arantes is on top in guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Donovan wants to sweep here but Arantes controlling him for the moment. Arantes seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Arantes landing with the ground and pound. Arantes is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Arantes stands up from guard. Let's bang! Arantes closes the distance and clinches. Arantes's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Donovan gets underhooks to prevent Arantes's takedown attempt.

Mike Donovan has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Edson Arantes. Arantes drops down looking for an ankle pick but Donovan pulls his leg out and moves away.
Donovan dodges the punch combination from Arantes.
Arantes digs a good body shot into Donovan's ribs. Arantes fails with the takedown and Donovan counters with a single leg into guard. Arantes didn't expect that. This has been an exciting period of action! Donovan looking to sit in guard and control but Arantes gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Arantes trying to control the position from guard on top but Donovan is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Donovan throws his legs up looking for a submission but Arantes uses it to pass to side control.
Donovan tries to bench press Arantes off him but Arantes keeps the position. Donovan wings away with a couple of strikes but they don't land. Donovan tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Arantes wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Donovan struggling a bit here. Donovan is looking to reverse the position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's four minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Donovan is trying to escape the position but Arantes is controlling the position. Arantes is looking to take a break and control but Donovan is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Donovan pushes Arantes away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Arantes gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Arantes throws a solid leg kick but Donovan takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Arantes. Arantes shoots in and bounces Donovan off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Arantes stopping the sweep attempt from Donovan. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Edson Arantes dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Donovan tries for a takedown but Arantes circles away easily and Arantes holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. Arantes jumps into guard, dragging Donovan to the mat.
Arantes manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Donovan is looking to improve his position but Arantes isn't that keen on the idea. Arantes postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Donovan looks a forlorn figure.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Arantes punishing his opponent with strikes.
That's one minute gone in the round. Arantes looking to control and managing it successfully. Arantes really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Donovan. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Arantes manages to capitalize on a mistake by Donovan to take his back! Arantes has good solid back control here.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Donovan controlling the position well but he knows he's in a bad position. Arantes has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Donovan's body.
Donovan is in bad spot here.
Arantes working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet. Arantes controlling the position well here. Donovan rolled but Arantes kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Arantes patiently working for the choke. Which fighter will keep their nerve here? Arantes lands punches and elbows. Donovan is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.
Arantes not allowing Donovan to control his hands. Donovan controlling the position well but he knows he's in a bad position. Donovan trying to control but not successfully.

The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
Arantes controls the position. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Arantes loading up with punches from the back mount - how long can Donovan hold on?

Edson Arantes showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!
Donovan tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Arantes decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Donovan's guard. Arantes wants to control from the top but Donovan keeps moving. Donovan wants to stand up but Arantes is controlling him. Donovan might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Arantes advances position into side control! Donovan can't do much from the bottom here. Both fighters are breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Arantes is looking to take a break and control but Donovan is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Donovan is looking for a sweep. Arantes working away. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Arantes throws a combination. Donovan tries to block but a couple of punches get through. Arantes tries for a takedown but Donovan circles away easily and Donovan counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Arantes is lucky that one didn't land flush. Donovan checks a leg kick. Donovan misses with a takedown and Arantes counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Arantes. Donovan throws a knee to the head but misses.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Arantes is trying to drag Donovan to the mat but Donovan just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there. Arantes tries to pull guard but Donovan holds him up against the cage and eventually Arantes drops back down to his feet.
Mike Donovan has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Edson Arantes. Arantes is trying to drag Donovan to the mat but Donovan just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there. The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Arantes takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life. Arantes escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Arantes stalks Donovan and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Donovan's face. Donovan staggers backwards, shaken. Mike Donovan has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Donovan moves out of range as Arantes throws a body kick.
Donovan darts in trying to clinch and Arantes counters with a nice uppercut. Mike Donovan seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Arantes clinches. Arantes fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Arantes wants a takedown.
Arantes breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Arantes tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Donovan paws at him with a jab and circles away. Donovan shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Arantes counters with a single leg into guard. Donovan didn't expect that. Donovan trying to keep a closed guard but Arantes is proving a slippery customer.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Donovan working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Arantes doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Arantes manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Donovan is trying to control the position but Arantes postures up. Donovan wants to stand up but Arantes is controlling him. Arantes trying to control but Donovan is working from the bottom. Donovan is working an open guard so Arantes takes the opportunity to get back to his feet. Donovan will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Edson Arantes is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Arantes fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
And that's the end of the fight! Edson Arantes comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Arantes has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
