Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Arron Asham (ranked 22 p4p, 42 weight class) and Joe Smith (ranked 5 p4p, 8 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 17 - 4 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Arron Asham! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 25 - 11 - 3, fighting out of Los Angeles, Joe Smith! The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Sosuke Kotani and Yukihiro Shimada.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Asham missing with a left hand there. Smith was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. A bone on bone clash there as Smith blocks the leg kick.

Smith throws a nice inside leg kick. Smith connects with an inside leg kick. A head kick misses from Smith. Asham appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body. Smith bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Asham's head backwards. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Asham cracks Smith with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd. Asham has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Guerrilla MMA in the buildup to the fight. Smith steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Asham. Joe Smith seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Smith lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
That's one minute gone in the round. Smith connects with a leg kick. Smith scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Asham doesn't seem bothered though. Asham slips under a jab from Smith. Smith throws a wild body kick that Asham sees coming a mile off. Asham swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect. Asham just misses with a punch to the body.

Smith looks for the body kick but Asham saw that one coming. Smith throws a sloppy head kick and Asham moves out of range easily. A thudding body kick lands there by Smith!
A looping hook to the body misses from Asham. Smith does a little dance to reset his feet. Asham throws a jab when Smith was well out of range. Smith looks like he wants to counter punch here. Smith lands a slapping body shot.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Smith tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Asham is able to avoid easily. Asham throwing a counter right hand but Smith manages to avoid it. Asham is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight. Smith fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Asham has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage. A bone on bone clash there as Asham blocks the leg kick.
Smith throws a chopping leg kick but Asham manages to avoid taking any serious damage. Smith bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick. Asham wants to clinch up but Smith keeps it at a distance. Smith slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range. Smith dips to his left and cracks Asham with an uppercut! Asham throws a shot from downtown. Smith moves away and avoids it. A telegraphed right hand from Asham misses the target. Smith has been working his punching technique in the buildup to the fight and it appears to be paying off. A good leg kick by Smith. Smith fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Asham. A slapping leg kick lands for Smith.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Smith clobbers Asham with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise. Asham ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Smith moves away. Asham avoids the head kick by Smith.

and Asham holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. A short right hand to the side of the head by Smith. Smith tries to throw a body punch but Asham avoids it by throwing Smith back against the cage. Asham blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Still in the clinch, Asham scores with a nice short uppercut. Asham tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked. Asham lands a nice knee to the body. Asham lands a right hand that snaps the head of Smith backwards. Asham tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage. An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Smith. Nice elbow from Smith. Smith misses with a punch on the inside.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Asham lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Smith or not. Asham crunches a lovely knee into Smith's ribcage. A head punch blocked on the inside by Asham. Smith scores with a nice hook to the head.

Asham softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage. Asham lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Smith or not. The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end. Asham misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Smith.

Smith tries to work over Asham's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Joe Smith will probably get the nod. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Asham attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin. Smith throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Both fighters circling a little - Smith finishes the exchange with a kick to the body. Asham throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Smith on the side of the head. Smith clinches with his opponent.
Asham is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Smith is defending well for now. Smith misses with the head strike.

On paper you would think he is the more dominant ground fighter so let's see if these unusual tactics pay off. Asham lands a good knee to the midsection. Smith won't want to take too many of those. A very excited looking Arron Asham made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
