PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Trey Diesel (ranked 4908 p4p, 4900 weight class) and Scott Trip (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Scott Trip!
The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Joseph Jones and Reed Andrews.

Diesel tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Trip swivels and escapes.
Trip tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Diesel half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Diesel tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Trip paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Trip punishes Diesel's body with a nice straight punch.
Diesel misses with a series of wild punches.
Diesel dives in and grabs Trip's left leg, looking for a takedown. Trip pushes down on Diesel's head and hops out.
Trip leaves Diesel with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Trey Diesel. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Diesel tries to close the distance and clinch up but Trip swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Trip is trying to counter with his kicks.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Trip closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Diesel quickly recovers to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Trip is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

Trip stops Diesel from getting back to his feet.

Trip postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Diesel to stand up.
Trip tries a head kick but it misses.

Trip clinches up with Diesel and pushes him back against the cage.
Trip missing with knees to the body.
Trip is looking to take this one to the mat.
Trip lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Diesel backwards.
Trip slowing the pace effectively.
Trip tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Diesel just stands there and leans against the cage.
Diesel drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Trip gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Trip is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.

Trip has Diesel pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Diesel manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Trip has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Diesel is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Diesel wants a takedown.
Trip on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Trip prevents the takedown attempt.
Trip tries to pull guard but Diesel won't allow it.

Diesel jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Trip walks away with a smile on his face. Diesel gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Diesel pulls guard.
Trip trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Diesel is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Trip is trying to stand up here but Diesel is controlling him well.
Trip is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Trip wants to get back to his feet.

Trip wants to control but Diesel is keeping busy.
Diesel is trying to control the action in half guard but Trip is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Trip controlling the leg, holding on to half guard.
Diesel throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Diesel wants to get back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Scott Trip dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Trip gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Diesel.

Trip breaks from the clinch.

Trip dives in for a single leg takedown but Diesel sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Diesel shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Trip sprawls well. Trip wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Diesel gets slowly back to his feet.

Diesel is trying to drag Trip to the mat but Trip just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Diesel moves in looking to clinch but Trip pushes him off.

Trip is trying to trip Diesel. He has hold of a leg but Diesel is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Trip persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Diesel trying to keep a closed guard but Trip is proving a slippery customer.
Trip throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

Trip decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Diesel, up you get!

Nice takedown defense from Trip. No joy for Diesel on that attempt.
Diesel wants to clinch.
Diesel tries to clinch but Trip moves away
enabling Trip to counter with a crisp jab.

Trip rushes Diesel and presses him up against the cage.

Trip breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Trip tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Diesel defends well and Trip ends up having to push Diesel into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Diesel throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Despite the aggression on Trip's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
A head kick misses from Diesel.

Trip looking to score a takedown here. Diesel is defending well but Trip drives through and ends up in Diesel's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Trip seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Diesel pushes Trip off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Diesel shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Diesel was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Trip is trying to improve his position.
Diesel wants to lay and pray for a moment but Trip keeps working.

Scott Trip showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

Diesel is trying to maintain a safe position but Trip gets an underhook and turns Diesel into the cage.
Trip tries to score a body lock takedown but Diesel shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Diesel manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Trip looking to sit in guard and control but Diesel gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Trip wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Diesel manages to pass to side control.
Trip really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Diesel. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Diesel is looking to take a break and control but Trip is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Trip tries to get to full guard but Diesel has control of the leg.

Diesel stands up and beckons Trip to join him on the feet.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Trip darts in and clinches Diesel up against the cage.

Diesel successfully pulls guard.
Trip wants to stand and escape but instead Diesel has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Trip wants to hit a sweep here but Diesel passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Trip there!
Trip wants to hold on but Diesel pushes him away.
Diesel lands a heavy elbow.
Trip is trying to escape the mount.

Diesel sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Diesel trying to control but Trip is having none of it.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Trip can do anything to dispel that myth.
Diesel pushing the pace here, looking to move to his opponents back and work for a finish.
Diesel working away from the top, dropping strikes.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Diesel looking to finish Trip with some ground and pound. This is bad for Trip!
Diesel tries to control but Trip wriggling away.

Diesel is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Trip can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Trip is looking to get to half guard.
Trey Diesel has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Scott Trip is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Trip is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Trey Diesel showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Trip has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
