PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Danny Rand (ranked 2131 p4p, 24522 weight class) and Charlie Patch (ranked 232 p4p, 544 weight class). Rand comes to the cage accompanied by Wu Tang-Protect Ya Neck. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Danny Rand!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 7 - 0, fighting out of London, Charlie Patch!
The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Paulo Santos and Felipe Paraventi.

Patch lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
A slapping leg kick lands for Rand.

Patch pushes Rand up against the cage in a clinch.
Patch changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Rand fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Patch tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Rand manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Rand looks to land a left hand but Patch moved out of range nicely.
An inside leg kick lands from Rand.
Rand just misses with a punch to the body.
A bone on bone clash there as Patch blocks the leg kick.
Patch looks for a takedown but Rand sprawls well.
Patch looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
The fighters circling - Rand throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Rand is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Patch.
Rand lands with a nice combination. Patch backs away looking to recover.

Patch tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Rand defends well and Patch ends up having to push Rand into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Patch closes the distance and clinches.
Patch misses with some punches.

Patch pulls Rand into guard.

Patch looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Patch has his foot on Rand's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Rand works his way back into a safe position though.

We've been hearing good reports from Rand's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
Rand wants to stand but Patch has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Patch is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Patch fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Rand to the ground. Patch is now in Rand's guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Rand is on top in guard.

Rand stands and steps away. Patch gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Patch is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Patch closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Rand to the mat! Rand manages to get full guard.

Rand has his feet on Patch's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
Rand dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Patch. That did some damage!
Rand misses with a few strikes there.
Some wild striking there from Rand.
Patch slips a jab from Rand.
Patch shoots and misses
and Rand counters with a big head kick but Patch shrugs it off.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Patch tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Rand just stands there and leans against the cage.

Patch tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Patch doesn't manage to clinch there - Rand circles away.
Rand lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Patch on the wrong end of a nice hook.
Rand misses the shot to the body.
Patch fails with an attempt to clinch.
Patch tries to clinch but Rand moves out of range.
Patch tries to clinch up.
Rand throws a right and a left that Patch avoids nicely.
Patch feints the counter takedown.
Rand throws a head kick that misses.

Rand gets tackled into the cage by Patch. Patch maintains the clinch.

Patch shoots in for a takedown but Rand shows good takedown defense.
Patch fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Rand is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Patch can do to turn this around?

Patch takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.

Patch moves into range and clinches up with Rand.
Patch blocks an elbow strike from Rand.

Rand's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Rand misses with a head kick.
Rand closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Rand lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Patch on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Patch goes for a double leg but Rand avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Rand continues to drive forward.

Patch throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Rand is looking for a counter combo.
Rand circles away from the clinch attempt.
Patch shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Rand defends it nicely.

Rand breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Patch tries to score a power double leg takedown but Rand sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Patch somewhat.

Rand lands a head kick. Patch smiles back at him and beckons him forward.

Patch is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Rand has managed to free his arm - good work.
Patch seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Rand does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Rand pushes Patch off looking to stand but Patch dives back in and keeps control.
Rand is trying to get back to full guard.
Rand is not content to let Patch control the position.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Patch frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

That kick from Rand tenderised Patch's leg. Patch is trying to keep his angry face on.

Patch utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Patch has a closed guard, preventing Rand from standing up.
Rand looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

Rand decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Horrible takedown attempt by Patch or perhaps it was just good defense by Rand, which made it look bad.
A little feinted left hand from Rand on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.

Patch shoots for a takedown but Rand saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
It looked like Rand wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Rand thumps Patch with a low kick.
Rand lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Rand lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.

Patch shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Rand connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

and Patch decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Rand's guard.
Patch won't allow Rand to get back to his feet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rand can't keep his opponent in guard - Patch advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Patch is controlling the pace.

Patch is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Rand defends it well.
Charlie Patch has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Patch thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Rand's head.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Patch stops Rand from getting back to his feet.
Patch passes to side control.
Rand tries to buck Patch off but Patch is having none of it.
Sloppy strikes there by Patch.
Patch wants to control but Rand is keeping him busy.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Rand dodges the ground and pound from Patch.
Danny Rand is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Rand is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Patch asserts his dominance and retains side control.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Charlie Patch.
I think Rand has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
