and Backman counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Backman lands a head shot. Nice straight punches there by Backman. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Backman. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Shklyarskiy throws a right hand that Backman ducks under and follows up with a left that Backman also avoids with ease. Shklyarskiy loads up on a big right hand but Backman slips the punch. It looked like Backman wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit. Shklyarskiy on the wrong end of a nice jab. Backman really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Shklyarskiy misses with a lunging right hand

That's one minute gone in the round. Shklyarskiy missing with a left hand there. Backman was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Shklyarskiy showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Backman.

Shklyarskiy drops his hands momentarily and Backman takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head. Backman lands a glancing blow to the side of Shklyarskiy's head. Shklyarskiy throws a shot from downtown. Backman moves away and avoids it. Backman wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch. Shklyarskiy might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable. Shklyarskiy misses with a few strikes there.
Backman swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Nice straight punches there by Backman. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Backman. Backman with a body punch. A glancing blow. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Shklyarskiy connects with the punch.

Shklyarskiy takes a swing at Backman's ribcage but misses. Backman is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches. Shklyarskiy misses with a hook. Backman ducked under it nicely. An attempted straight right counter from Backman misses the target. Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Backman!
Shklyarskiy needs to keep his hands up - Backman had a free shot at his head there.
Shklyarskiy is rocked! Shklyarskiy scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Backman doesn't seem bothered though. Shklyarskiy is still on wobbly legs! Can Backman finish him? Backman closes the distance and lands a crisp combination that knocks Shklyarskiy out cold! Shklyarskiy corner are devastated, head in hands behind our commentary position. Poor guys.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:37 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). George Backman! A relieved looking George Backman thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
