Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jerry Ruiz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Freddie McDowe!
The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Joseph Jones and Anthony Taglia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ruiz fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
McDowe has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.

Ruiz gets a takedown into half guard.

McDowe pushes Ruiz off and gets back to his feet.
McDowe lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by McDowe.
Ruiz tries to score with a low kick but McDowe moves his leg out of the way.
Freddie McDowe seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

McDowe gets caught flat footed, as Ruiz shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
McDowe has control of Ruiz's left arm, preventing Ruiz from doing any damage.
McDowe trying to keep a closed guard but Ruiz is proving a slippery customer.

Ruiz connects with a couple of short punches.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

McDowe is adopting a defensive guard.
Ruiz would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Ruiz stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. McDowe swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
McDowe stuns Ruiz with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.

Ruiz closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. McDowe quickly recovers to half guard.
Ruiz takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Ruiz tries to pass the half guard into mount. McDowe knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Ruiz throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Ruiz seems to be looking for submissions.
McDowe wants to control but Ruiz is keeping busy.

Ruiz wants to work for an arm triangle but McDowe is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Ruiz is working for an americana but McDowe has been sneaky and has managed to get back to half guard, whilst Ruiz was thinking about the submission.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Ruiz engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Freddie McDowe will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!

McDowe scores with a hook.
Ruiz tries to score a power double leg takedown but McDowe sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Ruiz somewhat.
McDowe moves out of range as Ruiz throws a body kick.
McDowe works Ruiz's body with a nice hook.
McDowe throws a shot to the body.
McDowe throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Ruiz stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
McDowe throws a series of strikes that have Ruiz backpedaling.

It looks like Jerry Ruiz has been cut.
McDowe lands with a precision combination! Left, right, uppercut and Ruiz falls flat on his face, eyes wide open but he's out!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:48 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Freddie McDowe!
Freddie McDowe decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
