PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Romeo Davis (ranked 25620 p4p, 4914 weight class) and Wosay Waldo (ranked 583 p4p, 430 weight class). Davis kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Goofy. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Romeo Davis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Wosay Waldo!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fray, Chris Saunders and Josh West.

Waldo stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Waldo wants it to stay on the feet.
Waldo feints the counter takedown.
Waldo should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Waldo shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Davis manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Davis is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Davis is looking for a triangle but Waldo pushes his legs off easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Waldo wants to pass the guard but Davis is keeping the position.
We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Waldo has eaten all the pies!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Davis is trying to control the position but Waldo postures up.

Davis pulls Waldo in close to prevent any damage.
Davis is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Waldo stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Davis swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Waldo is defended easily by Davis.
Davis shoots in but no luck this time.
Davis misses with a takedown attempt - Waldo sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Romeo Davis. That's going to take a lot out of him.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Davis gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Davis prevents a takedown attempt there.

Davis turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Davis manages to end up in side control.
Davis is looking to take a break and control but Waldo is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Romeo Davis seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

and Davis counters with a nice double leg into side control. Waldo won't be happy with that.

Davis is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Waldo has escaped the position, nice work there.
Davis grinds an elbow into Waldo's temple.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Waldo stops Davis from passing to mount.
We've been hearing that Davis has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.
Davis will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Waldo is not content to let Davis control the position.

Davis clinches up with Waldo and pushes him back against the cage.
Waldo drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Davis unloads a knee to the mid-section. Waldo lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.

Waldo gets tackled into the cage by Davis. Davis maintains the clinch.

Davis escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Davis turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.

Davis closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Waldo did well to prevent Davis getting side control.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Davis is pushing Waldo up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.

Davis pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Davis gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
An uppercut to the body lands inside from Davis.
Waldo tries to score a body lock takedown but Davis shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Davis drops down looking for an ankle pick but Waldo pulls his leg out and moves away.
Davis throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Waldo.

Davis pushes Waldo up against the cage in a clinch.

Davis tries for a takedown but Waldo manages to get underhooks.

Davis jumps guard and drags Waldo to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Davis manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Waldo manages to get himself to full guard.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Davis fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Waldo, pushing him back against the cage.

Davis breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Davis is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.

Davis has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Waldo regains guard immediately.
Davis forces his way into half guard.

Davis controlling the pace.
Waldo wants to improve his position but Davis is controlling well.
Davis is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Davis tries to stand but can't do so whilst Waldo controls his leg.

Romeo Davis overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Waldo wants to control but Davis is keeping busy and won't allow it.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Davis feints a jab promting Waldo to slip. Davis then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Waldo slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.

Waldo drives through with a takedown into Davis's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Davis wriggles free and stands up.

Wosay Waldo has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Davis drags the fight down to the ground.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Davis has control of Waldo's left arm, preventing Waldo from doing any damage.

Davis pushes Waldo off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Davis moves into the clinch successfully.

Davis jumps into guard, dragging Waldo to the mat.
Romeo Davis is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Romeo Davis showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Davis has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Romeo Davis decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
