PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jesse Karhu (ranked 995 p4p, 1305 weight class) and Kyle Cobra (ranked 126 p4p, 154 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the heavyweight championship of the world!

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 23 - 6 - 0, fighting out of London, Kyle Cobra!
The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Shigeki Fujiwara.

Karhu scores to the head and body with a nice combination!
Jesse Karhu seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
The fighters circle momentarily. Cobra darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.

It looks like Jesse Karhu has been cut.
A swing and a miss from Cobra.

Cobra closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Karhu did well to prevent Cobra getting side control.
Cobra wants to pass the guard but Karhu is defending well.
Cobra is taking a breather. Karhu says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Cobra lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Cobra is stalling here. Karhu is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Cobra seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Karhu has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Karhu will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Karhu has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Karhu rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Cobra moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Cobra stalks Karhu and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Karhu's face. Karhu staggers backwards, shaken.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Karhu, as that shot connected.
Karhu lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Karhu fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Cobra looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Karhu connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.

Cobra throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Karhu was covering up waiting for the punch and Cobra finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Cobra is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Cobra working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Cobra postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Cobra lands a couple of elbows.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Cobra darts in and clinches Karhu up against the cage.
Karhu is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.

Cobra tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Karhu is trying to maintain a safe position but Cobra gets an underhook and turns Karhu into the cage.

Cobra lands a nice uppercut.
Karhu is trying to push Cobra away but Cobra has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Cobra misses with a body punch.
Cobra lands with a light punch inside.
Cobra lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
Cobra tries to work over Karhu's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Cobra swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Cobra stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
Cobra keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Karhu's efforts to push away.
Cobra drops down looking for an ankle pick but Karhu pulls his leg out and moves away.
It looks like Karhu has been trying to sharpen up his punching technique, as it looks crisper than last time we saw him.

Cobra moves forwards but Karhu connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Karhu uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Cobra.
Karhu scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Cobra doesn't seem bothered though.
Cobra walks into a stiff left hand from Karhu.
Karhu scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Karhu moves into range and connects with a jab.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Karhu swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Cobra doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Cobra lands a nice shot that snaps Karhu's head back.

Jeez, Jesse Karhu's cut is really nasty now. The referee must be thinking about getting that checked.

With the fighters clinched against the cage, Karhu creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Cobra is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.
Cobra misses with a hook to the ribs.
Cobra tries to work over Karhu's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Karhu effectively controlling the action here.

Karhu manages to break the clinch.
Karhu moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.

Cobra lands a jab followed by a vicious hook that sends Karhu sprawling to the canvas. Cobra follows him down, looking for the kill. Can Karhu hang on?

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Jesse Karhu's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:58 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Kyle Cobra!

Kyle Cobra tried to hype himself up post fight but didn't word it too well and it ended up with him sounding like a bit of a tool.
