Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between John Wayne Gracie (ranked 599 p4p, 1687 weight class) and Teddy Bear (ranked 78 p4p, 194 weight class). Gracie comes to the cage accompanied by Thriller by Michael Jackson. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the heavyweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 28 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Wayne Gracie! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 21 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Teddy Bear! The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Wesley Smith and Gwen Towbar.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gracie tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. As Gracie backs off Bear throws a huge counter combo but Gracie manages to avoid it all. Gracie has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. Gracie misses with a looping right. It seemed like Bear was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it. Bear throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Bear scores with a shot to the body.
Bear takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.
Gracie connects with a body shot that sends Bear's belly button to the back. Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Gracie. Gracie tried to score with a low kick but Bear checks it. Bear swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made. Bear looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Bear on the wrong end of a nice jab. Bear fails to land with a series of punches.
Bear chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Gracie can pounce on him.
Gracie changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Bear looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. This has been an exciting period of action! Gracie trying to control the position but Bear is working away. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Bear can do anything to dispel that myth.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gracie tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Gracie trying to control the action but Bear is working from the bottom. Bear is pushing Gracie's head away, looking to escape. Gracie manages to hold on to the position though. Bear prevents Gracie from improving position. Gracie working away.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Bear might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Gracie haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time. The referee tells the fighters to keep busy. Gracie is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Bear is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Gracie working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Bear can't do much from the bottom here. Gracie trying to control the action but Bear is working from the bottom. Gracie lands some shots froms side control. Gracie working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter. Bear takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Bear dodges the ground and pound from Gracie. Bear tries to improve position but can't.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Gracie looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Bear is looking to reverse the position. Gracie in side control lands a decent elbow. Gracie trying to control the action but Bear is working from the bottom. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Bear throws Gracie to one side and escapes! And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
John Wayne Gracie dominated that round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Gracie throws out a leg kick but Bear moves out of range and Gracie only half commits. Bear checks the leg kick nicely there.
Gracie throws a leg kick which misses Bear's front leg but catches the back leg as Bear tries to avoid it. Bear throws out a loose jab but Gracie uses good head movement to avoid it. Bear throws a lazy uppercut
and Gracie counters with a good low kick that Bear was not able to check. Gracie scores with a shot to the body.
Gracie throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Sloppy strikes from Bear. Those never looked like landing. Bear on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Bear uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Gracie. Bear now looks to counter with a shot at the body. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Bear checks the leg kick nicely there.
Gracie fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Bear looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath. A head kick misses from Gracie. Bear looks to score with a jab to the body but Gracie is just out of range.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bear swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Bear on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Gracie. Gracie obviously looking to wear him down.
Gracie shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. John Wayne Gracie is winning the standup battle so far. Gracie throws a jab but it's blocked by Bear. Bear throws a nice looking combination but Gracie bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Gracie attempts a counter takedown but Bear avoids it well and moves away. Bear lands with an uppercut that bounces Gracie off the cage and back into range. Gracie punishes Bear's body with a nice straight punch. John Wayne Gracie seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Bear misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Gracie thuds his right hand into Bear's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters. Bear has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Gracie. Gracie connects with a body shot that sends Bear's belly button to the back. Gracie lands with a straight right. Bear didn't see that one coming. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Gracie fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Bear manages to avoid it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A slapping leg kick lands for Gracie.
Bear on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere. Bear closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Bear lands in his opponent's guard. Gracie working for a triangle but Bear defends it easily.
Gracie had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Bear defends it easily.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Gracie lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard. Bear working a defensive guard here.
Bear is pulling down on Gracie's head to control his posture. Gracie loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Gracie will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Bear wants to sweep but no luck.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Bear is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Gracie postures up and lands a big shot to Bear's brow. Bear is looking to stand up but Gracie isn't so interested in that idea. Bear tries to land a sweep but no joy. Bear manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Gracie manages to get himself to full guard.

John Wayne Gracie dominated that second round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Bear misses with an uppercut. Gracie ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Bear moves away. Bear is looking for the big counter here. Gracie misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Bear.
As Gracie backs off Bear throws a huge counter combo but Gracie manages to avoid it all. An inside leg kick lands from Gracie. A good leg kick by Gracie. Bear throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Gracie throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Bear on the side of the head. Bear takes a swing at Gracie's ribcage but misses. Gracie is trying hard to land a takedown here. Bear sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Gracie showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Bear.
Teddy Bear is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. A slow jab from Bear misses its intended target. Gracie shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down. Bear misses with a lunging right hand
and Gracie cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gracie scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Gracie lands some shots froms side control. Gracie in side control lands a decent elbow. Bear is looking to reverse the position. Bear is trying to escape the position but Gracie is controlling the position. Bear is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here. John Wayne Gracie overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Gracie lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face. Gracie tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it. Gracie tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Gracie has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Bear is looking to reverse the position. Bear can't do much from the bottom here. Gracie scores with a couple of short elbows. Gracie wants to lay and pray for a moment but Bear keeps working. Gracie working the ground and pound. Gracie has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Gracie wants to control but Bear is keeping him busy. Bear bucks up and tries to throw Gracie off but instead Gracie has got his back! Good control from Gracie. Gracie looking for the RNC. Bear tries to escape but Gracie has the hooks in and won't let him break free. Gracie is trying to stick to Bear's back but Bear is turning into Gracie. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Gracie's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Bear.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Bear wants to stand and escape but instead Gracie has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard. Gracie with a flurry of punches that miss. Gracie slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Gracie in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Bear wants to stand and escape but Gracie is having none of it. Gracie pushes down on Bear's leg and manages to get into half guard. Bear is looking to escape. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
John Wayne Gracie clearly takes that round. That's time! Back to the action! A looping hook to the body misses from Bear. Gracie does a little dance to reset his feet. Bear checks the leg kick nicely there.
Gracie bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Bear's head backwards. A good leg kick by Gracie. Gracie lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range. Bear's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down. Gracie throws a hook to the side of Bear's head but Bear sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Bear doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter. Bear moves out of range of the body kick from Gracie.
Gracie takes one to the chin there. Gracie lands with a hook. Bear tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Bear avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Gracie is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range. Bear looks to score with a jab to the body but Gracie is just out of range. Bear looks to throw the jab but Gracie is out of range. Gracie punishes Bear's body with a nice straight punch.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bear loads up on a big right hand but Gracie slips the punch. Gracie shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Gracie showed some decent athleticism there. Gracie is keen to just control but Bear is a slippery customer. Gracie seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. Bear is staying active underneath Gracie, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Gracie scoring with strikes to the body and head. Gracie is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Gracie uses his free foot to push down on Bear's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Bear.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Bear's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up. Bear is working to get back to half guard.
Gracie looking to control but Bear is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Bear is wriggling around trying to escape.
Gracie is landing with some decent strikes but Bear is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Gracie looking to control and managing it successfully. Gracie has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Bear's face.

Bear is rocked! Gracie loads up with a big shot that hurts Bear! He's pulled Gracie in close but Gracie has postured up and lands more strikes. Can Bear survive? More strikes from Gracie and Bear is out! The ref jumps in to save him! Brutal ground and pound!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:45 of round 4, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). John Wayne Gracie! John Wayne Gracie retains his heavyweight title! During a confident post fight interview, John Wayne Gracie thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him. In defeat, Teddy Bear stepped up to the mic, saying 'Tonight wasn't my night, but i'll learn and come back stronger.'.
