PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dave Thunder (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Odd Ivarov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Dave Thunder!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Odd Ivarov!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, William Gold and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Thunder avoids the head kick by Ivarov.

Ivarov changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Thunder looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Ivarov tries to move into full mount but can't pass Thunder's legs.
Ivarov throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Ivarov is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Ivarov cracks Thunder with a big elbow.
Thunder regains half guard, as Ivarov was trying to land strikes.

Ivarov decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ivarov misses with a body kick.
Thunder has a takedown stuffed.
Thunder could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Ivarov shoots in but Thunder avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Ivarov gets a takedown into half guard.

Ivarov is working for a kimura but Thunder is defending it quite comfortably.
Ivarov perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Ivarov trying to mount his opponent but Thunder defends it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ivarov content to control rather than advance.
Thunder gets back to full guard.
Ivarov looking to sit in guard and control but Thunder gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ivarov keeping moving, preventing Thunder from controlling successfully.
Thunder preventing the sweep.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Ivarov can do anything to dispel that myth.

Ivarov isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Thunder stacks Ivarov on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Thunder!
Ivarov looks gassed!
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Ivarov tries to bench press Thunder off him but Thunder keeps the position.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Thunder is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Ivarov has escaped the position, nice work there.
Thunder wants to control but Ivarov is keeping him busy.
Ivarov struggling a bit here.
Thunder throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Odd Ivarov dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Thunder keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Ivarov pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Thunder tries to clinch but Ivarov moves out of range.
Thunder tries to clinch up but Ivarov circles away and keeps his distance.
Ivarov throws a head kick that misses.
Ivarov keeps the fight on the outside.
Ivarov keeps the fight on the outside.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Ivarov. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.
Thunder tries to close the distance and clinch but Ivarov swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Nice sprawl there from Thunder as Ivarov shoots in.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Ivarov fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Thunder is out of range.

Ivarov clinches up with Thunder and pushes him back against the cage.
Ivarov is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Thunder gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Dave Thunder has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Odd Ivarov.
Ivarov is breathing heavily.

Thunder pulls guard effortlessly.
Ivarov really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Thunder. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Thunder is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Ivarov is controlling him.
Ivarov wants to control from the top but Thunder keeps moving.

Ivarov pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Thunder is keeping the position for now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Thunder is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Thunder throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Ivarov trying to move into half guard but instead Thunder has managed to sweep!
Thunder postures up.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Thunder clinches but Ivarov breaks the clinch
and Ivarov counters with a leg kick.

Ivarov looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Ivarov tries to free his leg and advance position but Thunder is retaining full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ivarov wants to control from the top but Thunder keeps moving.
Thunder is trying to control the position but Ivarov postures up.
Ivarov looking to sit in guard and control but Thunder gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Thunder wants to control from the top but Ivarov keeps moving.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Thunder wants to stand but Ivarov has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Ivarov closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Ivarov lands in his opponent's guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Odd Ivarov showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Ivarov is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Thunder fails with a takedown attempt.

Ivarov has taken the fight to the clinch.

Ivarov breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Ivarov tries to advance to mount but Thunder instead regains half guard.
Ivarov is keen to just control but Thunder is a slippery customer.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Thunder wants to clinch

so Ivarov counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Ivarov's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Thunder trying to control the position.
Ivarov controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Thunder tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Ivarov sitting in guard here, content to control.
Ivarov slips nicely into half guard.
Ivarov controlling the pace.
Ivarov missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Thunder wants to improve his position but Ivarov is controlling well.
Dave Thunder has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Odd Ivarov is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Odd Ivarov comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Ivarov has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
