James comes to the cage accompanied by Come To Daddy by Aphex Twin. Kento Kawamata has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Liam James's chin.

James throws a big shot that misses.
It seemed like Kawamata was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
James misses with a few strikes there.
Kawamata swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Kawamata showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from James.
James throws a right and a left that both miss.
Kawamata has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as James is landing a low percentage of strikes.

James fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Kawamata on the side of the head.

James is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Kawamata.
Kawamata bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.

James fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

James has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Kawamata finds it's way round the side to connect with James's head.

James has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.

Liam James seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
James loads up on a big right hand but Kawamata slips the punch.
Kawamata throws a head kick but James moves out of range.
Kawamata cracks a nice hook into James's ribs.
James scores with a sloppy right hand. Kawamata should have avoided that one.
James moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
James walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.

James throws a jab but it's blocked by Kawamata.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Kawamata! But no joy.

Kawamata looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
James missing with a left hand there. Kawamata was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

James lands with an uppercut that bounces Kawamata off the cage and back into range.
James takes a swing at Kawamata's ribcage but misses.
James moves out of the way of the counter high kick fromKawamata.

and Kawamata counters with a head kick that drops James to the mat! James scrambles across the canvas and gets back to his feet, still wobbly!

James is rocked!
Kawamata dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Kawamata feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends James sprawling to the canvas! James rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Kawamata finish him?!
Oh James is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Kawamata weaves into range and cracks James right on the temple with a beautiful overhand right! James goes down! He's out cold! Wow, what a beautiful knockout! Kawamata is strutting round the canvas like a movie star as the camera bulbs flash frantically.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:26 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Kento Kawamata! Kento Kawamata retains his light heavyweight title!
A victorious Kento Kawamata thanked his army of followers in his post fight interview, telling people to make sure they follow him on Twitter.
The defeated Liam James had this to say: 'No one likes seeing their opponent's hand raised, but that just means that they were the better man today. My team at 3Band MMA and I will break down this match and make the proper changes for my next camp.'.
