Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Stanislav Saprykin (ranked 1555 p4p, 1929 weight class) and Massi Vears (ranked 233 p4p, 290 weight class). Massi Vears struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 171.2lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. Stanislav Saprykin could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Massi Vears's chin.

Vears lands a good knee to the midsection. Saprykin won't want to take too many of those. I was talking to Saprykin's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight. Vears keeps control of Saprykin as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. Vears tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Saprykin avoids it. Saprykin dodges an elbow strike from Vears.

Saprykin has had enough of the clinch but Vears keeps him there for the moment. A short right hand to the side of the head by Saprykin. Vears with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head. Saprykin on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Saprykin lands a left hand that snaps the head of Vears backwards. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Saprykin tries to break the clinch but Vears is controlling the position. Saprykin has Vears pushed against the cage. Saprykin tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Vears's elbow. Saprykin on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Saprykin escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Saprykin scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction. A chopping leg kick lands by Vears. Massi Vears seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Vears misses with a head kick.
Saprykin bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Vears is rocked! Saprykin lands an uppercut out of nowhere! Vears falls backwards - clearly groggy! Saprykin dives in and finishes the fight with more strikes for a TKO finish!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:48 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Stanislav Saprykin! Stanislav Saprykin decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
