Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Monty Don (ranked 2637 p4p, 3226 weight class) and Jose Valdez (ranked 339 p4p, 402 weight class). Valdez has chosen Pump it up as his entrance music. Monty Don could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Jose Valdez's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Monty Don! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 5 - 5 - 2, fighting out of The Island, Jose Valdez! The judges for this bout are Winston Alpacca, Bart Greer and Daniel Franklin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Valdez misses with a head kick.
Don has managed to clinch.
Valdez breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Don tries to clinch up but Valdez circles away and keeps his distance. Valdez moves away from the strike by Don. Don moves in looking to clinch but Valdez pushes him off. A slapping leg kick lands for Don.
Valdez thows a body kick. Don tries to catch it but that hurt him. Don tries to close the distance and clinch but Valdez swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Don tries to close the distance and clinch up but Valdez swats him away and circles back towards the center. Valdez feints the counter takedown. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Valdez tries a head kick but it misses.
A slapping body kick lands there for Don. That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Don crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Valdez - the referee stops the clock and Don gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Valdez. Don manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes. Don lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
That's one minute gone in the round. Don throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Valdez sees it coming and avoids it easily. Valdez with the counter takedown but Don avoids it easily. Don darts in looking for a takedown but Valdez gets double underhooks and turns Don into the cage. Valdez tries to counter by closing the distance. Good work by Valdez as he checks the leg kick. And Valdez tries to counter it with a takedown but Don pushes his down on his head and steps out. Don attempts a low kick but it misses it's target. Don fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Valdez has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage. Don closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Valdez is trying to break the clinch but Don has him pressed against the cage. Valdez manages to break the clinch.
Valdez ducks under a wild hook from Don. Don shoots in for a takedown but Valdez shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Valdez drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Don defends it well. Don throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd. Don looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Don trying to control but Valdez is working from the bottom. Valdez wants to stand up but Don is controlling him. Valdez looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights. Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground! Don advances to half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Don stops Valdez from getting back to his feet.
Don winds up and cracks Valdez with a swinging punch to the side of the head. This has been an exciting period of action! Don lands strikes from half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Valdez is looking to escape. Don passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Valdez! Don lands a big shot there that rocks Valdez but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Valdez's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up. Don lands a heavy elbow. Don is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Valdez can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Valdez is rocked! Don raining down hammerfists from mount. Valdez is still in real trouble! Can Don finish him? Don loads up on a couple of big shots to the head that have Valdez scrambling to escape. He can't get free though and several more unanswered shots from Don land to the head. The referee has no choice but to stop the fight. Don stands and salutes the crowd.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Monty Don! Monty Don seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
