The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way.
Alvarez fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Johns sprawls well initially but Alvarez persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Johns (0) vs (2) Alvarez
Johns tries to roll over but Alvarez keeps him under control.
Alvarez is taking a breather. Johns says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Alvarez is thwarting Johns's attempts to control the position.
Johns wants to get back to full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Johns is looking to regain full guard. He's left an arm up in the air though and Alvarez has latched onto it... Big trouble! Alvarez pivots for an armbar - it's in tight and it Johns is tapping in no time flat! Great counter grappling there from Alvarez!
