Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Naoyuki Nakano (ranked 632 p4p, 888 weight class) and Sampson Shain (ranked 82 p4p, 107 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 14 - 8 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Naoyuki Nakano! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 23 - 16 - 0, fighting out of New York, Sampson Shain! The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Frank Dennis and Gwen Towbar.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nakano tries to score with a low kick but Shain moves his leg out of the way. Shain misses with a low kick. Shain tries to close the distance and clinch but Nakano swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Nakano lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range. Nakano misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Shain.
Nakano throws a leg kick but Shain moved away. Shain looks like he wants to counter punch here. Nakano connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Nakano scores with a kick to the body.
Nice defenses there by Nakano. Shain ducks under a wild hook from Nakano. Shain unleashes a big counter combination but Nakano bobs and weaves and avoids any damage. A jab from Nakano misses.
That's one minute gone in the round. Nakano tries to work over Shain's front leg with a kick but Shain checks it. Nakano throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Shain looks like he wants to counter punch here. Nakano throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land. Nakano throws a looping overhand right but Shain ducks down to avoid it. Shain thinks about the counter body kick. Shain displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Nakano throws out the jab. Shain doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter. A nice leg kick from Nakano, right into the meat of the thigh.
Shain throws a body kick but he wasn't in range. Nakano goes for a spinning back kick but it misses. Shain looks like he wants to counter punch here. Nakano throws a body kick that digs right into the meat. We've been told by Nakano's head coaches at Rings Russia that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight. Nakano slips under a jab.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Nakano is looking to slow Shain down with leg kicks. Nakano looks for the body kick but Shain saw that one coming. Shain shapes to counter with a head kick. Shain keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
It looks like Naoyuki Nakano has been cut. Nakano throws a leg kick that is checked and Shain counters with a lovely shot to the body. Nakano scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one. Nakano throws a leg kick and Shain counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. This has been an exciting period of action! Nakano throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body. Shain displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Nakano throws out the jab. The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Nakano checks a leg kick. Shain moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Nakano throws a leg kick and Shain counters with a stiff right hand. Naoyuki Nakano seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Nakano scores with a jab to the body. Shain tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Shain keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.
Nakano lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.

Nakano is rocked! Nakano throws a wild body kick that Shain sees coming a mile off. Oh Nakano is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Nakano tries to land a body kick enabling Shain to counter with a crisp jab. Shain slips a straight right by Nakano. Nakano throws a quick inside leg kick. Nakano fakes the leg kick and cracks Shain in the body. Shain throws a leg kick but Nakano sees it coming and checks it nicely.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A lazy body kick from Nakano and Shain scores with a counter punch that sends Nakano to the canvas! Shain smells blood - he's punishing Nakano with more strikes and the ref has stopped it! Nakano has no idea where he is - he's tackled the ref... oh dear, poor guy, the crowd is in hysterics!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:09 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Sampson Shain!
