Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between James Smith (ranked 1081 p4p, 1421 weight class) and Vos Zy (ranked 137 p4p, 175 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, James Smith!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Vos Zy!
The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Dmitry Maklakov and Igor Prikhodko.

Smith looks to land a left hand but Zy moved out of range nicely.
Zy lands a body shot.
Zy throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
It looked like Smith was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Zy.
Smith cracks Zy with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Zy fakes the leg kick and cracks Smith in the body.
Zy misses with a telegraphed body shot
and Zy takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Zy stuffs the takedown attempt from Smith. Smith gets slowly back to his feet.
Vos Zy seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Zy rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Smith moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Zy misses with an uppercut.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Zy keeps Smith at a distance using the push kick.
Smith sizes up Zy with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Smith lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
This has been an exciting period of action!

and Smith counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Zy displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Smith throws out the jab.

Smith stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Zy.
We've been told by Smith's head coaches at UnderGround BJJ & MMA that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Zy steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Smith.

and Smith counters with a takedown into side control.
Zy felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

Smith tries to move into full mount but can't pass Zy's legs.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Smith lands a nice forearm strike.
Zy is not in a great position here, taking some shots.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Zy tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Smith wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Smith has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Zy parries the strikes from Smith easily there. Smith is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Zy to escape.
Smith connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Zy some visible discomfort.

Zy is not content to let Smith control the position.
Zy is working to avoid the ground and pound but Smith connects with a decent elbow.

Smith throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.

Smith lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
Zy really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Smith. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Smith misses with the ground and pound.

Smith creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
Smith looks up at the clock and then as Zy takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Smith smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Zy is rocked!
Smith scores with a big shot from side control... and another... and another! Oh Zy is done here - save him referee! More strikes land and eventually the ref does step in and Smith can finally stop beating on his defenseless opponent!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). James Smith!
