Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Gorgon Zola (ranked 381 p4p, 235 weight class) and Carlos Ruas (ranked 10 p4p, 8 weight class). Zola's entrance music is For Heavy Metal we will die!. A fine choice. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 16 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Gorgon Zola! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 26 - 18 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Carlos Ruas! The judges for this bout are Percy O'Donnell, Don Winkell and Jack Bonds.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Zola slips under a jab. Ruas steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Zola. And Ruas tries to counter it with a takedown but Zola pushes his down on his head and steps out. Ruas scores with a crisp jab that stopped Zola in his tracks. Ruas misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Zola was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger. Zola misses with a series of wild punches.
Ruas moves away from the strike by Zola. Ruas rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Zola counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Zola throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Ruas. Zola jabs Ruas right on the nose. Ruas blinks but takes it well. Ruas misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Zola.
Zola looks to land a left hand but Ruas moved out of range nicely. Ruas is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here. Ruas scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one. Zola throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Ruas takes one to the chin there. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Ruas throws the left hand but Zola avoids the punch easily. Zola misses with a looping left. Zola steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Ruas. Zola lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Ruas or not. Zola is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Ruas is keeping busy. Ruas lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Zola backwards.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Ruas breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Zola lands a nice leg kick that just misses Ruas's sensitive parts. Ruas ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Zola moves away. Ruas just misses with a punch to the body.
This has been an exciting period of action! Ruas misses with a straight right. Ruas bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Zola's head backwards. Ruas takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh. Zola dodges the punch combination from Ruas.
Ruas sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs. Zola throws a body shot but no joy. Ruas misses with a hook. Zola ducked under it nicely. Zola takes a swing at Ruas's ribcage but misses. Zola connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe. Zola digs a good body shot into Ruas's ribs. Ruas's corner calls for a 1-2. Ruas obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range. Zola waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Ruas. Ruas circles away from the clinch attempt.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Ruas takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.

Ruas connects with a good right hand that stumbles Zola. Zola circles away out of range and recomposes himself. Ruas looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Zola desperately trying to maintain half guard. Ruas wants to pass to mount but Zola is defending the position. Zola wants to improve his position but Ruas is controlling well.

Zola is staying active underneath Ruas, who seems content to just control the action from this position. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Carlos Ruas will probably get the nod. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! Ruas looks to throw the jab but Zola is out of range. Zola scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent. Ruas misses with a looping left. Ruas shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. Zola keeping moving, preventing Ruas from controlling successfully. Ruas stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Zola swivels though and keeps the full guard. Zola is looking to stand up but Ruas isn't so interested in that idea. Zola is pulling down on Ruas's head. It's preventing any offense from Ruas, at least for the moment. Ruas trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Zola looking to control.

Ruas is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Zola has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage. Ruas preventing the sweep. Ruas shoots in looking for a takedown but Zola manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Ruas's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Donk. Zola catches Ruas right on the button with a cross. Zola jabs Ruas to the body, keeping him at a distance. Ruas misses with a hook.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Zola looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple. A chopping leg kick lands by Zola. Ruas takes one to the side of the head.
Zola throws a mid kick that lands with a slap. Ruas shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Ruas was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Zola bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet! The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Ruas lands with a nice combination. Zola backs away looking to recover. Zola swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Ruas. Zola walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head. Ruas with a body punch. A glancing blow. A jab from Ruas misses. Zola avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Zola lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook. Zola scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent. Zola lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ruas takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt. Zola lands with a shot to the body. Zola lands with a cross. Ruas shoots for a double leg takedown but Zola sprawls well. He's pushed Ruas's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Ruas comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range. A punch lands to the side of Zola 's head but he takes it in his stride. Zola throws a jab when Ruas was well out of range. Zola fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Ruas manages to avoid it. Ruas feints a jab promting Zola to slip. Ruas then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Zola slips again and ducks right into an uppercut. Ruas takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it. Zola scores with a decent looking hook. This has been an exciting period of action! Zola is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Ruas. Good work by Ruas as he checks the leg kick. Ruas needs to keep his hands up - Zola had a free shot at his head there.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Ruas will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Gorgon Zola has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Carlos Ruas. Zola throws a lazy right hand but Ruas sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Ruas throws a jab but it's blocked by Zola. Zola slips under a jab from Ruas. Zola uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Ruas. It looked like Zola wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit. Zola takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Ruas connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe. Ruas misses with a takedown attempt - Zola sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Ruas swings widly with a right hand
and Zola makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Ruas really felt that one! Ruas slips under a jab from Zola. Ruas throws the left hand but Zola avoids the punch easily. The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end. Ruas throws a hook but Zola avoids it easily. Zola swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect. That was a close second round but I would say that Gorgon Zola will probably get the nod. That's time! Zola's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round! Zola drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles. Zola scores with a shot to the body.
Zola fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Ruas has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage. Zola lands with a nice combination. Ruas backs away looking to recover.
It looks like Carlos Ruas has been cut. Ruas shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Zola as he avoids it easily. Gorgon Zola is winning the standup battle so far. Ruas misses the shot to the body. Ruas connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head. Ruas pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Zola back to the cage. Ruas follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver. Ruas throws a right hand that Zola ducks under and follows up with a left that Zola also avoids with ease. Ruas ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Zola moves away. Zola swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect. Zola lands with a short shot to the head. Zola tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage. Zola keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Ruas's efforts to push away. A quick uppercut on the inside from Zola. Zola dodges an elbow strike from Ruas.
Ruas is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though. Ruas has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Zola is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. Gorgon Zola has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Carlos Ruas. Zola tries a body shot but Ruas blocks it.

Ruas seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Zola does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Zola controlling the position well. Zola is concentrating on defense, preventing Ruas from advancing position. Ruas trying to pass the guard but Zola defending well. Ruas wants to work for an arm triangle but Zola is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Ruas wants to control from the top but Zola keeps moving. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Zola is on top in guard.
And that's the end of the fight! Gorgon Zola showed his dominance in that final round. I think Zola has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed. In defeat, Carlos Ruas stepped up to the mic, saying 'No one likes seeing their opponent's hand raised, but that just means that they were the better man today.
