PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Andre Mahesa (ranked 3279 p4p, 3501 weight class) and Zac Zane (ranked 160 p4p, 166 weight class). Mahesa comes to the cage accompanied by You're Going Down . I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Andre Mahesa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Zac Zane!
The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Shirou Masuda and Kenichi Hosakawa.

Zane stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Zane wants it to stay on the feet.
Mahesa ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Zane moves away.
Zane rushes in with a sloppy looking punch

and Mahesa counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Mahesa missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Zane has hold of Mahesa's hands but Mahesa slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Zane is staying active underneath Mahesa, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Mahesa looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Zane with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Mahesa throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Mahesa thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Zane avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Mahesa.
Mahesa wants to control but Zane is keeping him busy.
Zane tries to roll over but Mahesa keeps him under control.

Mahesa is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Zane doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Mahesa.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Mahesa drops an elbow to the side of Zane's head.

Mahesa is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Zane is just riding it out for now. Mahesa eventually gives up the hold.
Mahesa looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Mahesa thows a huge punch but Zane dodges it nicely.
Mahesa lands strikes from half guard.
Zane has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Mahesa is working away from the top position though.
Mahesa really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Mahesa is looking for a kimura here.
Zane blocking the ground and pound attempt from Mahesa.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Mahesa is trying to control the action in half guard but Zane is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Zane really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Mahesa. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Mahesa is working for a kimura but Zane is defending it quite comfortably.

Mahesa landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Zane tries to kick Mahesa off but Mahesa keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Mahesa seems to be working for a kimura but Zane defends the submission attempt.

Mahesa has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Zane defend it? Mahesa steps over the head and cranks it - Zane is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Mahesa!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:52 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Andre Mahesa!
During a confident post fight interview, Andre Mahesa thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
