This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the lightweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Helsinki, with a TWGC record of 5 wins and 2 losses; Neil Nucombe! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Los Angeles, with a TWGC record of 2 wins and 0 losses; Sammy Volkenhause! The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Elvis Blanc and Steve Smith.
The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Volkenhause is looking to clinch but Nucombe is avoiding it.
Volkenhause tries to clinch up. Nucombe is looking to counter the offense by Volkenhause and move into the clinch. Volkenhause tries to clinch up but Nucombe circles away and keeps his distance. Volkenhause moves in looking to clinch but Nucombe pushes him off. Nucombe seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance. Volkenhause will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Volkenhause tries to close the distance and clinch up but Nucombe swats him away and circles back towards the center. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Nucombe can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Nucombe is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Nucombe has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. Volkenhause working a defensive guard but Nucombe passes into half guard.

It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Nucombe jumps into side control! Score +3 for passing guard: Nucombe (17) vs (2) Volkenhause Nucombe slows the pace down. Nucombe's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Nucombe in particular looking to stall. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
