Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jase Newson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Captain Insano! The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Donatello Bradman and Hugh Johnson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Newson tries to clinch up. Newson circles away from the clinch attempt and Newson counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Insano wants to clinch and Newson counters with a nice double leg into side control. Insano won't be happy with that. An elbow from Newson crashes against the mat.
Insano manages to work his way to half guard, despite Newson's best efforts. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Newson missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Insano is positioning himself well to prevent Newson advancing to mount. Insano trying to control but Newson postures up.
Insano is trying to stand.
Newson drops an elbow to the side of Insano's head. Insano gets full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Newson loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Newson postures up in Insano's guard and throws a big left but Insano blocks it. Newson wants to control from the top but Insano keeps moving. Newson won't allow Insano to get back to his feet. Insano working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Newson. Newson trying to control the position from guard on top but Insano is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Newson lands a couple of elbows. Newson in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Newson throws a big right hand that misses. Newson loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Insano working a defensive guard here.
Newson stops Insano from standing up. Newson trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Insano keeping moving, preventing Newson from controlling successfully.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Insano tries to clinch but fails miserably and Newson counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body. Insano looks gassed! Newson tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Insano paws at him with a jab and circles away. Insano takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness. A jab lands there for Newson. Newson thuds his right hand into Insano's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters. Newson walks forward and throws a big overhand right! Insano drops to the floor like a sack of potatoes! Newson swarms on him with more punches until the referee wrestles him away from Insano's unconscious body! Wow, that was brutal!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:03 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jase Newson!
