Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Lukas Hooper (ranked 3155 p4p, 2322 weight class) and Rubicon Jay (ranked 156 p4p, 121 weight class). Rubicon Jay told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Lukas Hooper! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Rubicon Jay! The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, Franklyn Lucas and Jonathan Paton.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hooper is trying hard to land a takedown here. Jay sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Jay throws a counter combo. Hooper looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight. Jay throws a right and a left that both miss. Jay looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Hooper drops down looking for a counter takedown but Jay sprawls and moves away. Jay shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Hooper pinned against the cage. Hooper gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Hooper shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Hooper was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Jay tries to bench press Hooper off him but Hooper keeps the position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Hooper is looking to take a break and control but Jay is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Hooper tries to advance to mount but Jay denies him.
That's one minute gone in the round. Jay tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Hooper wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Jay wants to control but Hooper postures up. Jay throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done! Hooper shoots in and drives through. Jay sprawls well. Some wild striking there from Jay.

No joy there for Jay, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Jay wants to control from the top but Hooper keeps moving. Jay showing good wrestling skills to control the position. Hooper is looking for a triangle but Jay pushes his legs off easily.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Jay wants to stand and escape but instead Hooper has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard. Hooper looking to pass the guard. Hooper wants to control from the top but Jay keeps moving. Hooper got a little sloppy there for a moment and Jay has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Hooper has managed to get both his arms back between Jay's legs - danger averted. Jay has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Hooper can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Jay is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Jay is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Hooper has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Jay is working away from the top position though. Jay is figuring out what he wants to do next. Hooper wants to get back to full guard. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Hooper keeps control of the position for the meantime. Hooper looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Rubicon Jay dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Hooper slips a jab and a cross from Jay.

It looks like Lukas Hooper has been cut. Jay closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Hooper's guard. Hooper has an active guard here but Jay has managed to pass into half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round. Hooper makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Hooper. Jay stays in close to Hooper's body and controls the position. Jay wanted to stand there but Hooper had control of the position. Hooper looking to hit a scissor sweep but Jay is one step ahead there. Jay is stalling in the full guard. Jay trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up. Hooper has his foot on Jay's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Jay works his way back into a safe position though. Hooper is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Rubicon Jay seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Jay swinging wildly here.
Jay misses with a leg kick and Hooper counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. The fighters are battling for position here. Jay manages to regain full guard. Nice work. Hooper trying to control but Jay is working from the bottom. Jay is controlling Hooper's posture.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Hooper tries to free his leg and advance position but Jay is retaining full guard. Hooper trying to control the position from guard on top but Jay is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Hooper lands a couple of elbows. Jay is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Jay isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Hooper stacks Jay on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Hooper! Jay is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Hooper asserts his dominance and retains side control. You can see the frustration on Jay's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Hooper wants to lay and pray for a moment but Jay keeps working. Jay is trying to improve his position. Hooper tries for a kimura but Jay is defending well. Hooper is trying to get an arm triangle but Jay is defending well. Jay is trying to control Hooper's posture but Hooper avoids it. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Jay is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Hooper's leg. He's managed it. Nice work. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Rubicon Jay showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The cut man is working on Lukas Hooper's cut. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round! Jay defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Hooper. Jay tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Hooper defends well and Jay ends up having to push Hooper into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. Jay lands a jab-cross combination. Jay tries to sprawl but Hooper drives through with a takedown into half guard. Hooper is trying to control. Jay wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Jay is trying to stand back up but Hooper is controlling him

Jay is not content to let Hooper control the position. Jay actively working from the bottom here. Jay takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Jay is looking to escape. Jay pushes Hooper off but Hooper dives into side control.

That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Jay sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard. Hooper moves into side control, avoiding a weak kimura attempt from Jay. Hooper throwing shots but missing, from side control. Lukas Hooper has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Hooper working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Jay throws a couple of strikes even though he's not really in a good position to do so.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Jay is looking to regain half guard here but Hooper keeps moving and retains side control. Jay has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Jay is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard. Hooper looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Hooper is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Jay doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Hooper. Rubicon Jay is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight. Jay looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Jay is positioning himself well to prevent Hooper advancing to mount. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Jay trying to control but Hooper postures up.

And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Lukas Hooper. Well Jay has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. In favor of your winner, by unanimous decision... Rubicon Jay! In his post fight interview, Rubicon Jay started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
