PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Khalabib Emelianenko (ranked 1639 p4p, 3466 weight class) and Patrick Star (ranked 200 p4p, 404 weight class). Emelianenko comes to the cage accompanied by Song for Denise. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Patrick Star was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Well, if Emelianenko is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Star escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Emelianenko gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

We've been hearing good reports from Emelianenko's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Star's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

Emelianenko is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Star's shoulder. That is not cool.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Emelianenko seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Star for as long as he can get away with.

Star isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Emelianenko stacks Star on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Emelianenko!

The referee asks Emelianenko politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Emelianenko prefers to stall for the moment though.

Emelianenko's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Emelianenko, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
