And in the blue corner, fighting out of Montreal, with a TWGC record of 5 wins and 3 losses; Andy Shifter!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Alan Glass and Cecil Peabody.
The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way.
Shifter misses with a takedown attempt - Average sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Average is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Average is taking a breather. Shifter says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

We've been hearing good reports from Average's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Average's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Average keeping moving, preventing Shifter from controlling successfully.
Average has his foot on Shifter's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Shifter works his way back into a safe position though.

Shifter wants to control from the top but Average keeps moving.

Average has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Shifter can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Shifter seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Average does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Shifter might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Average haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Average is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
