CACC 113 PBP Commentary |
This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the bantamweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Los Angeles, with a TWGC record of 7 wins and 3 losses; Ricky Judge! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, with a TWGC record of 0 wins and 4 losses; Rickson Time! The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Robert Twigg and George Francis.
The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Time has a takedown stuffed. Time shoots in but no luck this time. Judge displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Time. Ricky Judge has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rickson Time. Time darts in looking for a takedown but Judge gets double underhooks and turns Time into the ropes. Time closes the distance and clinches up with Judge, looking for a takedown. Time pushes Judge against the ropes but Judge circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Time gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Judge (2) vs (0) Time Judge controls from within his opponent's guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Judge drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Judge jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Time working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Judge doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Judge manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
That's one minute gone in the round. Judge not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Judge stands and throws Time's legs to the side, diving into side control. Score +3 for passing guard: Judge (5) vs (0) Time Time is trying to escape the position but Judge is controlling the position. Judge's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground. Time is trying to control Judge's posture but Judge avoids it. We've been hearing good reports from Judge's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today. Judge in side control, just content to control the action for now. Time tries to bench press Judge off him but Judge keeps the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Judge moves into full mount! Score +2 for reaching mount: Judge (7) vs (0) Time Time can't escape the position.
Time is still trying to improve position. Judge tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Judge seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Time for as long as he can get away with. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Time is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Judge has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. Judge mounts Time! Really nice guard pass there! Judge looking to control and managing it successfully. Time tries to get back to half guard but can't. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Judge looking to secure an arm triangle but Time defends it well. Judge content just to control the position here.
That's five minutes gone in the round. Further stalling from Judge. Judge moves to back control. Score +3 for taking back: Judge (10) vs (0) Time So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.
Time trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble. Time is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Judge gets his way!

That's six minutes gone in the round. Judge has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Time's body.
Time is in a world of trouble here. He's outmatched on the ground here and he'd better get Judge off his back sharpish unless he wants to be submitted. Judge working from the back looking to end the fight with a rear naked choke. Time is doing well to defend. Judge seems to have got his hand under the chin though and he's sunk the choke in! Time is forced to tap and this one is over!
