Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Big Dog Gracie (ranked 1549 p4p, 23752 weight class) and Richard Komakech (ranked 33 p4p, 188 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Gracie might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Gang out. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the super heavyweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Big Dog Gracie! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Richard Komakech! The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, Jorge Garcia and Eddie Farnsworth.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Komakech looks to land a body kick but Gracie moved away. Gracie throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Komakech's waist but Komakech gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Gracie off to one side. Komakech looks like he wants to counter punch here. Gracie shoots for a takedown but Komakech saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Gracie shoots in and bounces Komakech off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Gracie might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Gracie's corner is telling him to maintain position. Gracie trying to move into half guard but instead Komakech has managed to sweep!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Komakech has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Gracie is proving hard to escape from. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Gracie working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Komakech doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Komakech manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Komakech really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gracie. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Gracie is trying to keep Komakech in close.

He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Gracie in particular looking to stall. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Komakech can do anything to dispel that myth. Gracie trying to mount his opponent but Komakech defends it. Komakech swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made. Gracie tries for a takedown but Komakech circles away easily and Komakech counters with a nice uppercut. Gracie shoots for a double leg takedown but Komakech sprawls well. He's pushed Gracie's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Gracie with a lazy takedown attempt and Komakech connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Gracie fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Big Dog Gracie. That's going to take a lot out of him. Gracie throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Gracie darts in looking for a takedown but Komakech gets double underhooks and turns Gracie into the cage. Gracie thows a left - swing and a miss! Komakech is looking to regain half guard here but Gracie keeps moving and retains side control. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Komakech looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it. Gracie throws a hook but Komakech blocks it. Gracie clinches up with Komakech and pushes him back against the cage. Gracie changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Komakech fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Komakech bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. Gracie tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Komakech manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Gracie fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Komakech stuffs the takedown.

Gracie darts in trying to clinch and Komakech counters with a left and a right that stings Gracie. Gracie dives in and grabs Komakech's left leg, looking for a takedown. Komakech pushes down on Gracie's head and hops out. Gracie is really struggling to find his range with his punches. Komakech's reach advantage is clearly causing him problems. Gracie doesn't succeed with the takedown and Komakech counters with a series of strikes. Gracie will be more careful next time no doubt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Big Dog Gracie. That's going to take a lot out of him. Gracie shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Despite the aggression on Komakech's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter. Gracie fails with the takedown and Komakech makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Gracie misses with a takedown and Komakech counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

Horrible takedown attempt by Gracie or perhaps it was just good defense by Komakech, which made it look bad. Sloppy strikes from Komakech. Those never looked like landing. Gracie needs to keep his hands up - Komakech had a free shot at his head there. Gracie tries to clinch up. Komakech throws out a counter right but Gracie avoids it with no problem. Gracie fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Komakech sprawls well initially but Gracie persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Komakech wants to get back to his feet.

Big Dog Gracie seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Nice takedown defense from Komakech. No joy for Gracie on that attempt. Gracie is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all. Gracie misses with an uppercut. Komakech saw that one coming. Gracie shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Komakech counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Komakech circles away from the clinch attempt.

Gracie closes the distance and clinches up with Komakech, looking for a takedown. Gracie pushes Komakech against the cage but Komakech circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Gracie takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it. Gracie misses with a takedown and Komakech counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Richard Komakech really dominated that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. No luck for Gracie with that takedown attempt. Gracie scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard. Komakech has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Gracie fails with a takedown attempt. Komakech swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made. Gracie shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Komakech's guard. Komakech pulls Gracie in close to his closed guard and prevents Gracie from doing any damage or advancing position. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Gracie looking to sit in guard and control but Komakech gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that. Gracie misses with a takedown attempt - Komakech sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. That's three minutes gone in the round. Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Komakech, as that shot connected.
Komakech displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Gracie. Gracie closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Komakech is letting Gracie control him for a moment. Gracie wants to lay and pray for a moment but Komakech keeps working.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Komakech can't do much from the bottom here. Komakech is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Gracie thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Big Dog Gracie has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Gracie tries for a kimura but Komakech is defending well.
And that's the end of the fight! Richard Komakech comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I think Komakech has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
