Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Newt Diaz (ranked 6757 p4p, 3750 weight class) and Freddy Fred (ranked 615 p4p, 447 weight class). Diaz comes to the cage accompanied by Im a soldier. Newt Diaz has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Newt Diaz! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Freddy Fred! The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, Richard Clark and Colin Fotheringham.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Diaz throws a jab when Fred was well out of range. Diaz throws a head kick but Fred moves out of range.
Fred appeared to try and counter that last move with a leg kick. Diaz closes the distance and clinches. Fred tries to circle away but Diaz has him pinned against the cage. Diaz pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Diaz tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Fred is able to avoid easily. Nice sprawl there from Diaz as Fred shoots in. Fred has a takedown stuffed. Fred moves in looking to clinch but Diaz pushes him off. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Fred fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Newt Diaz has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Freddy Fred. Fred gets tackled into the cage by Diaz. Diaz maintains the clinch. Diaz pulls guard effortlessly.
That's one minute gone in the round. Fred prevents Diaz from getting back to his feet. Fred working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. Fred stays in close to Diaz's body and controls the position. Fred wants to control from the top but Diaz keeps moving. Diaz has control of Fred's left arm, preventing Fred from doing any damage. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Fred throwing strikes from guard but Diaz blocks nicely. Diaz trying to keep a closed guard but Fred is proving a slippery customer.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Fred in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Diaz is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Fred shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Diaz defends it nicely. Fred fails with a takedown attempt. Fred fails with an attempt to clinch.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Fred goes for a double leg but Diaz avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Diaz continues to drive forward. Fred closes the distance and clinches up with Diaz, looking for a takedown. Fred pushes Diaz against the cage but Diaz circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Diaz defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Fred. Fred misses with a head kick.
Diaz changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit. Fred is looking to clinch. Fred tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Diaz manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Diaz loads up on a big right hand but Fred slips the punch. Fred fails with an attempt to clinch.
Fred lands the left hand. Diaz fails to land the takedown. Diaz shoots in and drives through. Fred sprawls well. A combination from Diaz does no damage.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Diaz closes the distance and clinches. Diaz gets underhooks to prevent Fred's takedown attempt.

Fred wanted to stand there but Diaz had control of the position. Fred must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Fred stopping the sweep attempt from Diaz. Fred stands up from Diaz's guard - Fred perhaps looking for a knockout. Diaz drives through with a takedown into Fred's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position. This has been an exciting period of action! The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Diaz wants to control from the top but Fred keeps moving. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Newt Diaz dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Fred misses with a jab, cross combination.
Fred defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Diaz. Fred dives in and grabs Diaz's left leg, looking for a takedown. Diaz pushes down on Fred's head and hops out. Diaz attempts a counter takedown but Fred avoids it well and moves away. Diaz has taken the fight to the clinch.

Diaz preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Fred postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Diaz is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Diaz keeping moving, preventing Fred from controlling successfully. Fred is fighting to break Diaz's control of his arms but Diaz is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
That's one minute gone in the round. Diaz escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Fred gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Fred drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Diaz dives on top into guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Diaz trying to control the action but Fred just sinks the hooks in. Diaz is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet. Diaz prevents Fred from getting a body triangle. Fred looking to break Diaz's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Diaz remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Fred will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke! Fred is trying to stick to Diaz's back but Diaz is turning into Fred. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Fred's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Diaz. Diaz is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Fred can do to turn this around? Diaz wants to pass the guard but Fred is keeping the position. Fred wants to sweep here but Diaz controlling him for the moment. Diaz stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Fred swivels though and keeps the full guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Fred controls Diaz momentarily but Diaz frees himself. Fred looking to hit a scissor sweep but Diaz is one step ahead there. Diaz throws a big right hand that misses. Fred is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Diaz trying to control but Fred is working from the bottom.

Diaz seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Diaz is looking to stand up but Fred won't let him.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Diaz fails with a takedown attempt. Fred is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here. Diaz avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Newt Diaz dominated that second round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round! Fred lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook. Diaz fails with an attempt to clinch.
Fred keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Fred with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Fred shoots for a takedown but Diaz saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. As Fred looks to move away, Diaz throws a big counter combo but Fred just gets out of the way. Diaz pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way. Newt Diaz is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Fred dives in and grabs Diaz's left leg, looking for a takedown. Diaz pushes down on Fred's head and hops out. A little feinted left hand from Diaz on the counter but he doesn't commit to it. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Fred misses with a double jab.

Diaz circles away from the clinch attempt.
Diaz half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range. Fred shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Diaz pinned against the cage. Diaz gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Newt Diaz has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Freddy Fred. Diaz fails with a takedown attempt. Fred misses with a body kick. Fred throws a sloppy head kick and Diaz moves out of range easily. Fred tries a head kick but it misses.
Freddy Fred seems to be getting the better of the standup. Fred will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Diaz attempts a counter takedown but Fred avoids it well and moves away. Fred takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Fred fails to land the takedown. Diaz is looking for a counter combo.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Diaz lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Fred circles away quickly and effectively. Diaz slaps away a takedown attempt from Fred, before circling back to the center of the mat. Diaz throws a head kick that misses. Diaz fails with the takedown and Fred counters with a two punch combo.
It looks like Newt Diaz has been cut. Diaz tries to clinch but Fred is having none of it. Fred throws a head kick but Diaz moves out of range.
No luck for Diaz with that takedown attempt. Diaz looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Fred keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Diaz tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Fred paws at him with a jab and circles away. Fred shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Horrible takedown attempt by Fred or perhaps it was just good defense by Diaz, which made it look bad. Fred closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Diaz is looking for a takedown. Fred tries to work over Diaz's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target. Diaz pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
That's four minutes gone in the round. That kick from Fred tenderised Diaz's leg. Diaz is trying to keep his angry face on. Diaz clinches up with Fred and pushes him back against the cage. Fred tries to break the clinch but Diaz is controlling the position. Diaz keeps control of Fred as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. Diaz has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Fred avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch. Diaz displaying some good clinch control by pressing Fred up against the cage. Fred is defending well against a takedown attempt. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Diaz goes for a takedown attempt but Fred pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

And that's the end of the fight! Freddy Fred comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I think Diaz has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
