Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between James Howlett (ranked 2562 p4p, 3241 weight class) and Primo Volto (ranked 370 p4p, 450 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Primo Volto!
The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Joseph Jones and John Kavanagh.

A solid leg kick lands there for Howlett.

Howlett clinches with his opponent.
I was talking to Howlett's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
Howlett is trying to wear down his opponent with knees to the body.
Howlett pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the cage.
Volto wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Howlett keeps control of Volto as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Howlett unloads a knee to the mid-section. Volto lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.

Volto has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Howlett avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Volto has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

Howlett is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Volto is defending well for now.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Volto throws a lazy right hand but Howlett sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

Howlett fakes the leg kick and cracks Volto in the body.
Volto fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.

Howlett throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Volto scores with a crisp jab that stopped Howlett in his tracks.

Volto is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.

Howlett lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Volto circles away quickly and effectively.
Howlett fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Volto works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Volto has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.

Howlett drives through and clinches with Volto against the cage.
Volto on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Volto tries to pull guard but Howlett won't allow it.

Howlett scores a nice knee to the body.
Howlett connects with a knee to the head.
Volto drops down looking for an ankle pick but Howlett pulls his leg out and moves away.
James Howlett has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Primo Volto.

and Volto counters with a shoot takedown. Howlett fights it but they end up in guard.

Volto has gone for a leg lock! Howlett slips out almost immediately though and dives into Volto's guard.


That's three minutes gone in the round.
Howlett is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Howlett's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Volto is looking to cinch up a triangle. Howlett throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Volto's body to avoid the submission. Volto has instead reached around Howlett's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Volto arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:41 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Primo Volto!
A very excited looking Primo Volto made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
