Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Nick Rodriguez (ranked 1525 p4p, 3394 weight class) and Jim Fox (ranked 175 p4p, 344 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Fox's choice of entrance music: Ice Ice Baby, Vanilla Ice. This should be fireworks!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Nick Rodriguez! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 5 - 6 - 0, fighting out of London, Jim Fox! The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, John Roberts and Russell Pearce.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Fox misses with a looping left. Rodriguez feints and as Fox raises his hands in defense, Rodriguez changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Rodriguez wants to pass the guard but Fox is keeping the position. Our spies down at at Gateway To Greatness inform us that Fox has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off? The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Fox wants to sweep but no luck. Rodriguez controls from within his opponent's guard. Rodriguez looking to sit in guard and control but Fox gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Rodriguez is on top in guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Rodriguez showing good wrestling skills to control the position. Fox manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Rodriguez manages to get himself to full guard.

Fox landing some decent shots from guard. Fox trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Fox won't allow Rodriguez to sweep him here. Fox lands a couple of decent looking shots. Rodriguez keeping moving, preventing Fox from controlling successfully. Fox got a little sloppy there for a moment and Rodriguez has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Fox has managed to get both his arms back between Rodriguez's legs - danger averted. Rodriguez has his foot on Fox's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Fox works his way back into a safe position though.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Rodriguez bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Fox's guard. Rodriguez wants to pass the guard but Fox is keeping the position. Fox looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Rodriguez is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. Rodriguez pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Fox is keeping the position for now. Fox tries to land a sweep but no joy. Rodriguez trying to control the position from guard on top but Fox is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Rodriguez stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Fox swivels though and keeps the full guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Rodriguez has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Rodriguez is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Fox is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Fox has escaped and now he's on top! Fox is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. Fox trying to control but Rodriguez is working from the bottom. Fox preventing the sweep. Rodriguez is trying to control the position but Fox postures up. Rodriguez looking to hit a scissor sweep but Fox is one step ahead there. Rodriguez looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Rodriguez controls Fox momentarily but Fox frees himself. Fox in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Rodriguez had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Fox defends it easily. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Rodriguez is on top in guard.
Rodriguez wants to control from the top but Fox keeps moving. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Rodriguez is looking to advance position but Fox has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount! Fox lands a big shot there that rocks Rodriguez but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Jim Fox will probably get the nod. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Rodriguez shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Fox as he avoids it easily. Rodriguez blocks a head kick by Fox.
Rodriguez changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit. Fox throws a leg kick but Rodriguez moved away. A head kick by Fox misses and Rodriguez counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Rodriguez slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Rodriguez wants to pass the guard but Fox is keeping the position. Nick Rodriguez overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Rodriguez trying to control the position from guard on top but Fox is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Rodriguez is pushing down on Fox's leg trying to pass to half guard. Fox is fighting to maintain full guard but Rodriguez has managed to sneak the leg through. Rodriguez wants to control but Fox is keeping him busy. Rodriguez is figuring out what he wants to do next.
That's one minute gone in the round. Rodriguez is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Fox has managed to free his arm - good work. The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Rodriguez trying to control from Fox's half guard. Fox has other ideas though and has regained full guard. Rodriguez sitting in guard doing not very much at all here. Fox doesn't need a second invitation though! He's locked up a guillotine and he's squeezing tight! That is tiiiiiiiiight! Rodriguez paying the price for stalling here - he's pushing hard on the arm trying to free himself but it's no use! He's tapped! WOW, quick submission from Fox - great work!
