Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Matt Kota (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lauri Mononen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Lauri Mononen!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kota keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Matt Kota seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Kota throws a right and a left that both miss.
Kota tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Mononen dodges the punch combination from Kota.
Kota looks to score with a jab to the body but Mononen is just out of range.
Mononen is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
A solid leg kick lands there for Mononen.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mononen fails with the takedown.
Nice takedown defense from Kota. No joy for Mononen on that attempt.
Matt Kota has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Lauri Mononen.

Kota feints and as Mononen raises his hands in defense, Kota changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mononen is trying to control the position but Kota postures up.
Kota has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Kota stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Mononen swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Kota won't allow Mononen to sweep him here.
Mononen wants to get back to his feet but Kota is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Mononen is trying to control the position but Kota postures up.

Mononen is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Kota trying to control but Mononen is working from the bottom.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Horrible takedown by Kota or perhaps it was just good defense by Mononen which made him look bad.

and Kota counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Mononen's guard now.
Mononen looks gassed!

Kota won't allow Mononen to sweep him here.
Kota showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
Kota wants to stand and escape but instead Mononen has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Kota wants to sweep but no luck.
Kota keeping moving, preventing Mononen from controlling successfully.
Kota can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Mononen controls the pace.

Kota not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Kota wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Mononen wants to control from the top but Kota keeps moving.
Mononen might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Kota kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Mononen tries to free his leg and advance position but Kota is retaining full guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Kota doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Mononen counters by clinching up.
Mononen can't break the clinch.

Mononen successfully pulls guard.
Mononen seems keen to control Kota's posture.

Mononen is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Kota wants to control from the top but Mononen keeps moving.
Mononen throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.

Mononen working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Kota doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Mononen is tightening it up a little... Kota has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Kota reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Kota taps out! nice BJJ there by Mononen!
