Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Alika Hakekia (ranked 4444 p4p, 1195 weight class) and CJ Tripp (ranked 565 p4p, 187 weight class). Alika Hakekia looks tired to me. Hopefully he has got enough gas left in the tank to put in a good performance.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, CJ Tripp!
The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Ren Mimura and Shigeki Fujiwara.

Hakekia tries to clinch
letting Tripp counter with a right hand.

Hakekia gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Tripp throws a punch but it's blocked by Hakekia.
Tripp has a couple of punches blocked by Hakekia.
A nice left hand lands by Tripp.

Hakekia has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Tripp uses from the top position.

Tripp avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Tripp really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hakekia. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hakekia has a closed guard, preventing Tripp from standing up.

Tripp must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Hakekia controls Tripp momentarily but Tripp frees himself.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters, thinking about a standup.

Tripp gets to his feet. Hakekia looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Tripp counters with a body kick.
Tripp tries a low kick but Hakekia avoids it.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Hakekia misses with a few strikes there.
Hakekia displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Tripp throws out the jab.
Tripp throws a front kick that sends Hakekia stumbling back into the cage.
Hakekia is breathing heavily.
Nice defenses there by Hakekia.
Tripp tries to land a front kick but Hakekia steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Hakekia will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Tripp defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Hakekia.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Tripp! But no joy.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Alika Hakekia. That's going to take a lot out of him.

and Tripp counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

It looks like Alika Hakekia has been cut.
Tripp misses with a hook. Hakekia ducked under it nicely.
Hakekia is looking light on his feet compared to last time was saw him fight.
Tripp lands a nice looking body kick.

Both fighters circling a little - Tripp finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.
CJ Tripp is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Hakekia shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Hakekia uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Tripp.
A thudding body kick lands there by Tripp!
Tripp fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Hakekia loses concentration momentarily and Tripp pounces with a three punch combo! Right, left, right! Hakekia crashes face first to the mat, out cold! Tripp finishes this one with a fantastically precise combo! Great stuff.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:30 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). CJ Tripp!
A relieved looking CJ Tripp thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
