PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Disco Kid (ranked 470 p4p, 456 weight class) and Muuka Laine (ranked 60 p4p, 58 weight class). Kid comes to the cage accompanied by Wu Tang Clan - Protect Ya Neck. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 22 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Disco Kid!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 25 - 15 - 0, fighting out of London, Muuka Laine!
The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, Chris Edwards and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Some bone on bone action there as Kid checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
A solid leg kick lands there for Laine.
Laine slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Laine throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
A good leg kick by Laine.
Kid loads up on a big right hand but Laine slips the punch.
Laine lands with a straight right. Kid didn't see that one coming.
Laine throws a body kick that misses

and Kid decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Laine's guard.

Kid slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kid trying to control the position from guard on top but Laine is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Kid throws a strike but Laine rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Kid escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Laine gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Kid is trying to control the position from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Kid looking for a guillotine here but Laine defends easily.
Kid wants to improve his position but instead Laine has moved into half guard.

Kid tries to get to full guard but Laine has control of the leg.

Kid stops Laine from taking his back. Still, being mounted isn't any better.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Kid tries to lock up and control but Laine gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Kid reaches up to try and control the position but Laine seems to have an arm triangle now! Uh oh! Kid rolls and tries to escape and now Laine has his back!
Kid looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Laine wants to control but Kid is keeping busy.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Laine keeps control of the position as Kid tries to break free.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Muuka Laine dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Kid jabs at Laine's body.
Laine ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Kid throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Laine stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Kid throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Kid lands a jab to the head.
Laine uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Kid.
Kid on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Laine has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Kid steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Laine.
Laine thows a left - swing and a miss!
Laine darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Kid throws a nice looking combination but Laine bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Kid lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Laine lands a two punch combo.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Kid tries to move into range but Laine moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Laine swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Laine has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
Kid shoots in looking for a takedown. Laine tries to sprawl out of it but Kid keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Laine manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kid lands a lovely overhand right.
Laine jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Kid takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.

Kid scores with a takedown into Laine's guard.

Laine kicks Kid off and gets to his feet.
Kid connects with the punch.
Laine misses with a hook.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Kid shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Laine as he jumps to the side.
Kid loads up on a big right hand but Laine slips the punch.
Laine misses with a kick to the body.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Laine throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.

Laine gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Kid to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Laine pushes Kid off and scrambles back to his feet.

Kid closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Laine's guard.

Kid is looking to advance position but Laine has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kid stops Laine from taking his back. Still, being mounted isn't any better.
Kid wants to control but Laine is having none of it.
Kid is working to get back to half guard.
Kid tries to hold on but Laine pushes him away.

Kid is trying desperately to improve position.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Muuka Laine showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!

Laine lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Kid lands a slapping body shot.
Laine throws a nice looking combination but Kid bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Kid uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Laine.
Laine throws a low kick, looking for Kid's leg but Kid calmly moves out of range.

Kid looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Laine is fending him off so far but Kid persists. Nope, Laine circles away and we're back to standing.
Laine delivers a nice body kick.
Laine takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Laine looks to land a left hand but Kid moved out of range nicely.
Kid is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Laine.
Muuka Laine seems to be getting the better of the standup.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kid loads up on a big right hand but Laine slips the punch.

Kid fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Laine to the ground. Kid is now in Laine's guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Laine lands a leg kick that knocks Kid off balance momentarily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Kid throws a hook to the side of Laine's head but Laine sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Kid will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
A nice combination there by Laine.
Kid checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Kid blocks a leg kick.
Laine throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Kid on the side of the head.
Kid looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.

Kid moves into range and clinches up with Laine.
Kid swings wildly with an uppercut but Laine uses good head movement to avoid it.
Kid doesn't land with the attempted body shot.

Laine breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Good work by Kid as he checks the leg kick.
Kid appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Nice uppercut lands for Laine. That snapped Kid's head back.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Laine goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Kid sizes up Laine with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Laine throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
A jab from Laine finds it's way through Kid's defenses.
Kid throws a jab when Laine was well out of range.
Laine raises up his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick.
Laine connects with a good right hand that stumbles Kid. Kid circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Kid misses with a double jab.
Laine ducks under a wild hook from Kid.
Laine thuds his right hand into Kid's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Laine circles away from the clinch attempt
and Laine connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Kid swings for the body but Laine moves out of range.
Laine raises up his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick.
Kid sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
A low kick lands for Laine.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Laine catches Kid with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Kid avoids the head kick by Laine.
Laine looks to land a body kick but Kid moved away.
Kid throws a lazy uppercut
letting Laine counter with a right hand.
Kid tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Laine stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Laine wants it to stay on the feet.
Donk. Laine catches Kid right on the button with a cross.
Kid takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.
Kid scores with a crisp jab that stopped Laine in his tracks.
Kid takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Kid takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Laine moves out of range as Kid strikes.
Muuka Laine is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
A nice leg kick lands there from Laine.
Kid swings and misses with a hook to the body.
A little jabbing left from Laine on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Laine misses with a hook.
A good leg kick by Laine.

And that's the end of the fight!
Muuka Laine comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Laine winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

A very excited looking Muuka Laine rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
