Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Konichiwa Jempsa (ranked 680 p4p, 948 weight class) and Alex Martens (ranked 83 p4p, 124 weight class). Martens has chosen The XX - Intro as his entrance music. Konichiwa Jempsa is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples... Tweaking his own nipples that is.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 13 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Konichiwa Jempsa! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Alex Martens! The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Frank Antenori and Percy O'Donnell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Jempsa gets a double leg takedown into Martens's guard. Jempsa trying to control the position from guard on top but Martens is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Jempsa works over Martens with some ground and pound from guard. Jempsa in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Jempsa postures up and lands a big shot to Martens's brow. Jempsa controlling from the top position. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Jempsa advances position into side control! The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Martens stops Jempsa from passing to mount. Jempsa happy to just control the position for now. Jempsa scores with punches from side control. Martens takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Jempsa working the head and body with strikes. Jempsa thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Martens told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Jempsa in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows. Jempsa creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Martens sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike. Jempsa has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Jempsa working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Jempsa lands a nice forearm strike. Martens parries the strikes from Jempsa easily there. Jempsa is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Martens to escape.
Martens pushes Jempsa away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Jempsa gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Jempsa controlling from side mount. Martens takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Martens is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Jempsa is controlling him well. Jempsa landing strikes. Jempsa is putting a hurting on Martens here, landing some big shots from side control. Jempsa content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Martens can do anything to dispel that myth.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Martens wants to get back to his feet. Jempsa working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter. Jempsa controls the position from side control. Jempsa creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Jempsa working the strikes but Martens uses the opportunity to regain half guard. Jempsa is figuring out what he wants to do next. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground. Martens keeping moving, preventing Jempsa from controlling successfully. The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Jempsa misses with a takedown attempt and Martens counters with a nice leg kick. Jempsa fails with a takedown attempt. Martens unleashes a big counter combination but Jempsa bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Jempsa shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Martens pinned against the cage. Martens gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Martens shapes to counter with a head kick. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Konichiwa Jempsa. That's going to take a lot out of him. Martens throws a mid kick that lands with a slap. Jempsa fails with a takedown attempt. A countering left hand to the body from Martens misses. Martens looks to throw the jab but Jempsa is out of range. Jempsa looks to score with a jab to the body but Martens is just out of range. Konichiwa Jempsa seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

As Jempsa backs off Martens throws a huge counter combo but Jempsa manages to avoid it all. A looping hook to the body misses from Jempsa. Martens does a little dance to reset his feet. Martens unleashes a big counter combination but Jempsa bobs and weaves and avoids any damage. Martens stuffs the takedown. Martens tries a quick counter leg kick but Jempsa is wise to it. Martens wants to slow Jempsa down by chopping away at his legs. Martens lands a front kick. Jempsa shoots and misses and Martens counters with a head kick. That will keep Jempsa thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!

Nope, Martens circles away and we're back to standing. Martens throws a body punch but Jempsa moves out of range. Jempsa is looking to counter with a shot to the body. Jempsa closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Martens did well to prevent Jempsa getting side control. Still in half guard, Jempsa seems content to control. Martens avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Jempsa. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Jempsa seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Martens does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Martens keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Jempsa is figuring out what he wants to do next. Jempsa scores with a couple of good hammerfists. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Alex Martens showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. That's time! Back to the action! Jempsa fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Jempsa falls off balance throwing a combination
and Martens counters with a leg kick. Martens goes for a high kick. It partially lands. Jempsa checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time. Martens stuffs the takedown. Jempsa seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym. Jempsa shoots for a double leg takedown but Martens sprawls well. He's pushed Jempsa's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Martens lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected. Martens throws a hook to the side of Jempsa's head but Jempsa sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Jempsa shoots in looking for a takedown but Martens manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Jempsa's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Jempsa shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Martens as he jumps to the side. Jempsa fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Alex Martens is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Jempsa has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Martens. Martens pulls out of a head kick attempt.

A slow jab from Jempsa misses its intended target. Martens is looking to slow Jempsa down with leg kicks. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Jempsa. Jempsa gets cracked there but stands up to it.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Jempsa is defended easily by Martens. A shot to the body from Jempsa misses letting Martens counter with a right hand. Jempsa looks for a takedown here. Jempsa tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Martens defends well and Jempsa ends up having to push Martens into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. Jempsa closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Jempsa wants to lay and pray for a moment but Martens keeps working. Jempsa is looking to advance position but Martens won't allow it. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Jempsa looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Martens is looking to chop away at Jempsa's legs. Jempsa is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Martens. Martens thumps Jempsa with a low kick. Jempsa throws a poor cross that misses
and Martens counters with a stiff right hand. Martens dodges the punch combination from Jempsa.

and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick. Martens lands a leg kick that knocks Jempsa off balance momentarily. Jempsa misses with a takedown attempt - Martens sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Martens throws a right hand that Jempsa ducks under and follows up with a left that Jempsa also avoids with ease. Jempsa tries to counter with a takedown but Martens is quick to defend against it. Jempsa loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Jempsa pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Martens is keeping the position for now. Jempsa looking to control the position here, rather than advance. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Jempsa postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Alex Martens dominated that fourth round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round! Martens moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination. Jempsa fails with a takedown attempt. Jempsa throws a series of strikes that have Martens backpedaling.
Martens is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Jempsa goes for a double leg but Martens avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Martens continues to drive forward. Martens looks like he wanted to counter with a high kick but didn't throw it. Jempsa tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Martens defends well and Jempsa ends up having to push Martens into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. It seemed like Martens was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it. Martens scores with the left hand. Jempsa knows he should have avoided that one. Alex Martens seems to be getting the better of the standup. Jempsa throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Martens's waist but Martens gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Jempsa off to one side. Despite the aggression on Martens's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter. Jempsa is really struggling to find his range with his punches. Martens's reach advantage is clearly causing him problems. Martens pushes Jempsa away with a front kick. Martens stuffs the takedown attempt from Jempsa. Jempsa gets slowly back to his feet. Jempsa is looking to wear down Martens with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment. Martens cracks a nice hook into Jempsa's ribs.

Jempsa is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight. Jempsa shoots in but Martens avoids the takedown attempt easily. Jempsa shoots in looking for a takedown. Martens tries to sprawl out of it but Jempsa keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Martens manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Jempsa chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Martens can pounce on him.
Jempsa takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily. Jempsa fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Jempsa closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Martens taking punishment in the form of punches.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet. Martens is not content to let Jempsa control the position. Konichiwa Jempsa has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Jempsa is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Martens has escaped the position, nice work there.
And that's the end of the fight! Alex Martens comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I think Martens has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
