PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Nathan Diaz (ranked 25209 p4p, 4883 weight class) and Jason Silver (ranked 0 p4p, 81 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Nathan Diaz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jason Silver!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Stewart Dunkirk and Wesley Smith.

Diaz dodges the punch combination from Silver.

Diaz shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Silver napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Diaz is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Silver knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Diaz wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Silver, who protects the arm well.
Silver tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Diaz presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!

Diaz has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Diaz is looking to work his way around to Silver's back. He needs to be careful though, as he's in danger of losing this dominant position.

Silver is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.

Diaz has picked Silver up - he's going for a ride! Diaz dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

Diaz drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Diaz jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Silver wants to get back to his feet but Diaz is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Diaz looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Diaz feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Nathan Diaz overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Diaz is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Silver is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Diaz drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Silver manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Diaz has Silver in his guard.

Silver can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Diaz controls the pace.

Silver is looking for a triangle here but Diaz uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.

Silver tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Diaz wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
You can see the frustration on Silver's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Diaz is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Silver will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Nathan Diaz will probably get the nod.
That's time! Diaz's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Diaz closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Silver did well to prevent Diaz getting side control.

Silver wants to improve his position but Diaz is controlling well.
Nathan Diaz is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Diaz, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
