PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dennis Rader (ranked 1242 p4p, 3252 weight class) and John Thunder (ranked 145 p4p, 342 weight class). Thunder has chosen Thunderstruck - AcDc as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Dennis Rader!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, John Thunder !
The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Emerson Jorge and Paulo Santos.

Thunder shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Thunder on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.

It looks like John Thunder has been cut.
Thunder misses with a straight right.
Rader lands a head shot.
Thunder tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Rader manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Thunder ducks under a wild hook from Rader.
Nice takedown defense from Rader. No joy for Thunder on that attempt.
Rader really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Nice sprawl there from Rader as Thunder shoots in.
Dennis Rader has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Thunder .
Thunder keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Rader.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Thunder takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.

Rader gets a clinch.
A shot in the inside from Rader.
Rader tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Rader is trying to pull guard but Thunder has him pressed against the cage.

Rader breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Rader misses the jab.
Rader looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Rader is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.
Rader avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Thunder takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Thunder doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Rader counters with a nice uppercut.
Thunder throws a lazy right hand but Rader sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Rader thuds his right hand into Thunder 's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
No joy there for Rader, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Thunder takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Thunder closes the distance but Rader moves to the side
and Rader counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Rader slips a jab and a cross from Thunder .

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Thunder takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Rader scores with a nice head shot.
Thunder tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Rader paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Rader lands a big right hand that sends Thunder crashing to the mat! Rader stays standing though and waves Thunder back to his feet!

Thunder is rocked!
Rader is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.
Thunder tries for a takedown but Rader circles away easily
and Rader counters with a big right hand! Oh Thunder is in trouble here! Rader follows up with more strikes and that's it! The ref has stopped it!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:26 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Dennis Rader!
In his post fight interview, Dennis Rader started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
John Thunder spoke after the fight, saying 'I put it on the line every time. These gym rats fuck this guy'.
